Reefpoint is an article in this month's Lakeland Boating. We all got an email yesterday that the marina will be up and running in 33 days. Is there any reason we shouldn't go in early? Reefpoint031213.jpg

You're thinking the ice may not be out by then? We are across the lake from Milwaukee and still have ice fisherman on our lake, but we also lost two feet of snow on the ground at our home and our woods has areas with no snow. Once the snow in the woods goes spring is here. Our marina starts launching boats on April 1 and their bubblers are making fast work of breaking up the ice in the basin. Heck, I started up a tractor in my barn today and moved some hoses to bibs around the house. Tomorrow we are starting the spring clean up in the areas of our yard that do not have snow. We expect to be all cleaned up by the first of April and will start seeing bass boat about that time. The Grand River is open and the icebergs on Lake Michigan are noticeably smaller than two weeks ago. Winter is not quite but just about over.

That picture is so sad, Thats why I left NY. Never to see that again

Friday we had ice fishermen ,about 50 i saw on the saginaw river. On sunday i saw two not far from the open water where about 30 boats were fishing for the anual flushing walley festival where i live.It used to be flint river catch only but they changed it so now a lot go to saginaw to fish.I did notice less traffic in town ,last year it was hard to get through town. They served about 700 walley dinners last year, still waiting for this years numbers.

We were down at the marina this past weekend and the water still was very hard with snow piles in the parking lot. Looked like good progress was being made at the new restaurant.

We are going to get in as soon as I can get at the boat and get her buffed/polished/waxed.

I think the hard water is going to slow many people from getting in in 33 days, unless we have a run of very warm weather.

I'll be in the water in 20 days, we have no ice left in New Buffalo and only the small cliffs on the lake by shore.

Will the ice be gone soon, that's a great question. No 40's for 10 days! The marina sits out into the lake and Racine is on Wind Point which is 7 miles farther east than Milwaukee. An east wind can have us 40 degrees at the dock and 80 degrees in town. Come spring, please come and bring a hot summer!

CHANCE OF RAIN:60% WIND:E at 13 mph

The only ice associated with fisherman here on Bartlett Lake is in their beer coolers!! Yeah I'm beginning to sound like Humph! But I sure don't miss late Winter or early Spring on Lake Michigan. With the lake level down I wouldn't be surprised if my former marina, PHYC, won't be open until very late May or early June. Hope you guys have a good 2013 season on LM!!
