Then back around under the Mac, to Rogers City. No pictures of Rogers City, Roger lost the city in the divorce, and the wife ran the town down to nothing. But seriously nice people at the marina. And an old fashion movie theatre in the town.

Then down to East Tawas. The marina was just recently re-done. Great docks, and new buildings. Good Chinese food believe it or not. But maybe we were just hungry. The ride from Rogers city started off rough, and I almost turned around and headed back, but my travel partner who was a mile ahead, said don't worry it'll smooth down, and after we came around Thunder Bay it did smooth out. In fact, by the time we made East Tawas, it was beautiful.

Thursday, we left to Port Sanilac. If you can stop there and say hi to Vanessa. She's the Very capable and enthusiastic dockmaster. Give her time and she'll be running a large marina somewhere warm. Sorry, no pictures. Then Friday

, the forcast was for a bad weekend, so instead of stopping at Sarnia Bay marina, we headed under the Bluewater Bridge, and home we went.

So my conclusions. Get out there and travel. Nothing teaches you about your boat like traveling on her. I found that my 380 likes to have the starboard trim tab down about 30% more than the port. How did I know? When I put my autopilot on heading hold, I could see the rudder position on the display, and only with that setting on the trim tabs could I get mostly a neutral rudder. I have trim tab indicators on my Garmin display, and I have the actuators to run through the display. Go on an extended run during a day, 2 or 3 hours, starting with full tanks, and ending with a fillup. That will teach you what you need to know about fuel usage.
The state of Michigan reservation system sucks. Even if you call they won't help you unless it's for more than 24 hours in the future. That's just stupid. If the weather is good to move and I want to reserve a slip today, they should take the reservation. In Mackinac Harbor, when we called the harbor they hinted that we should just come as they usually always have slips available. BTW, the surge from the ferries SUCKS!
There is nothing better than walking the docks with a beverage and talking to the people.

Next year, the north channel.

We have a summer lake house right in the harbor of Port Austin (our view is the break wall and marina) we stay up for June & July (our main residence is outside Orlando). We love coming up every year, can't beat the summers up here and the town has really grown in the last few years. Great new harbor since they re-did it a few years back. I often sit on my porch and watch all the boats coming in, always lots of Sea Rays to look at! Let me know if any of you make it up and I'll walk down and have a cold one with you!
