This years Aquapalooza event is scheduled to be held in MacRay Harbour. I have to trailer my boat about 80 miles to get there and I would hate to launch it, then cruise out to the harbour and anchor all day. Are there any nearby destinations to cruise out to? I've read about Strawberry Island but can't seem to find much info on it. Is it possible to cruise up the Clinton River? Is it worth it? It'll be me, my wife and two kids (4yrs & 7yrs). Any suggestions?

I just contacted my local dealer and they are planning to hold an event at a small local lake but this lake doesn't even have a launch site that I know of, no parking either...Kind of a dumb location. Although they haven't nailed it down to this lake yet. I gotta check back in a couple weeks to find out.

Hi Brad,

Aquapalooza is supposed to be outside of MacRay, in what is known as poor mans bay. It's a nice sandbar, about 3 to 6ft of water, just outside of the harbor.

There are a lot of destinations on St. Clair! Gull Island, Muscamoot Bay, Strawberry Island are all popular. The Clinton river has some restaurants, gas docks and marina's etc. Also, with a 4 yr old and 7 yr old (I have the same ages) I like destinations. Just south of the clinton river is Metro Beach (state park) that your kids will probably enjoy.
Good luck!

Thanks Still LauCo. We'll probably hit the Aquapalooza event for a good part of the day and then head out to try to get some actual boating in. I'm thinking we'll hit Strawberry Island, how far out is Strawberry Island? We were at the Gull Island event last year and headed up the St. Clair River afterward...not very far though. It's nice to get out and cruise around when I'm not stuck on one of my little inland lakes around here.

No problem Brad, Strawberry is JUST north of Gull, not far at all.

If you want a nice little cruise, head south on the lake, past Metro Beach, past the 9 mile tower, then you will see the Grosse Pointe Yacht Club, just past there are some beautiful homes and again a very nice sand bar.

From there, it's a 10 or 15 minute minute ride to see the Detroit skyline. Make sure you have good chart, and GPS, as Scott's Middle Ground on the American side is very shallow, and you have to follow the marked channel.
Have fun out there!

I would love to head down the Detroit River by the RenCen. I actually work in the RenCen (a few times a month) and stare out the windows for a good part of the day just dreaming of being out there instead of working. Hopefully the weather will be nice that weekend and we'll get a chance to head down that way.

Cruising down the river and seeing the RenCen and going under the bridge is worth the ride.
As far as destinations, I would have to agree with LauCo, however, Strawberry Island can be a little choppy if there is a lot of traffic out and about, but the bottom is nice and sandy and water is clear.

I look forward to our first Aquapalooza!
