Lake Powell Pictures

And in case you can't get enough photos of this magical place, here are a some of mine from last year--all a repost from last year. They show us making our way from Albuquerque, NM trailering the boats to Lake Powell. I'm warning you--nowhere near as good as Keokie's, so don't waste your time looking unless you really want some other views; also, be forewarned not a single Sea Ray in any photo. The sights just coming to Lake Powell from NM and Arizona were also pretty amazing to me, and few are included here:

You sell yourself short, those pictures are awesome.

Definitely will holler when I get things together. I need to shrug off my tendency to overwork, and get on the road. I think Nickysc might jump on the road with me when the time comes and we can caravan out. Sept is probably a little early, but who knows what we might be able to make happen. Good luck on your OD change.

sounds good
mid sept to first week in nov is the prime season to be on powell
spring the water temp is still a little low and you get a lot of drift wood and stuff floating, mostly on the uppper half of the lake. then you get the spring storms and wind. summer is ok but can get hotter than the dickens and with out air cond its tough to sleep.
dont miss understand, i'm not saying there is a bad time to go up there but only that in the fall it all comes togeather for the best of every thing. less people, warm water to play in, cool nights to sleep, and water pretty well cleared up + still lot of sun.
we like to summer at flaming gorge and move powell in the fall. makes for a real nice season for us and bullfrog is lot better place for us to store for the winter
not trying to make you feel bad but its only 320 mi drive for us
cheers, john

Very cool picture.

I have been away from the board at meetings for the last few days. Getting back to a couple of things... Time Off was only doing about 30 mph in those photos, but she is powered identically to my old 260 and is capable of breaking into the 50's.

September is my favorite month on Powell as well. I have gone nearly every year for the last 20. I hope to go this year as well. A CSR Rendezvous at Powell would be cool.

keokie; any time after labor weekend. i couldnt keep up with you. 43 gps mph are the best we can get. dont know what she'll do with the new B III drive.
do you guy get up lake much.
maybe we could meet for an afternoon at esclante canyon some time

If you guy's plan a trip to Powell please count me in. We just got the boat in Powell over Memorial day and keep the boat at Bull Frog dry storage. We are looking for excuses to get back!!!! We plan on going out 2rd week of July, 4th week and off and on through August. Nothing planned yet for September.

Never dropped anchor there, how do you guys tie up?

I check out this web site every morning :

DonSR,

As far as anchoring, we typically 3 point tie to the beach. That is, drop the bow anchor and back into the beach (carefully). Then we secure 2 stern lines to the beach via stakes, anchors, or simply tying to boulders based on the terrain.

Garryowen,

95% of our cruising is between about 27 - 34 mph.

Would love to join others from the board at Powell.

In the meantime, here is another pic from Wahweap:

Keokie
These are great shots. I need to get down there one year.
Nice write up.

Keokie, do you keep your boat at Wahweep? We plan on doing the Bull Frog to Wahweep run in late July or early August.

Todd, we should plan a time when we could come from the South East, and meet up with you guys from the Great North West.

Yeah. It may be a couple years.
In the Fall I was going to attempt another CSR PacNW/SanJuan Islands/Canada Cruise for summer 2010. I figured I'd start the thread then to peak the interest and begin planning.

I'd really like to see as many as possible come along. I think those from the East coast would freak out, just from the depth alone.

Any interest to drag a boat accross the country or chartering ones.

Todd,

Thanks for the compliment. I like your pics as well and would love to do the Pac NW sometime. I am occassionally in the area for work, but never to boat. That 2010 trip picques my curiosity, but it is a long way to drag a boat... Maybe.. Would love to see you at Powell sometime, though.

DonSr,

The run to Wahweap is beautiful. The scenery is awesome.

We launch at Wahweap, but come up by trailer from Phoenix.

Thanks Keokie, we plan on meeting my son, who is driving from Phoenix, in Wahweep and spending 3-4 days there. I'm really worried about the wind that kicks up. How many feet of dock line did you recommend I bring? Look like you tied to the shore in 4 different places? The submerged rocks also terrify me. I can see me pulling into a cove and finding one of those boulders just below the water level.

By the way we keep our boat at Lake Pleasent Oct-May. Are you at Lake Pleasent also?

Great pics Keokie!
I cant wait to get back there. When are you planing on going back? I dont think I will get back untill the end of July. I should be there for two weeks.

TMSRB,

My dad (Time Off) may be up there at the end of July. I'm hping to be back in late August or September, but don't know, yet.

DonSR, we don't go to Pleasant much. I never really did like that lake much. We do most of our local boating at Saguaro.

These are probably some of the best pictures I have seen on this website...interesting lake shots of the canyon walls, etc...very VERY different lay of land compared to that here in Kentucky.

Thanks Keokie- I have never been Saguaro, looks so small. We keep the boat Oct-May at Pleasant Harbor dry storage ($$$) and rent a slip when we come to town. They have nice facilities, showers, restaurent etc. but its a hassale down the 17 to see my son in tempe. I leave for Powell thursday and should be on the water Friday-Monday.

TMSRB - Let me know when you head to the Lake. Looks like we will be there 3rd wk of July and 1st week of August.

Doesn't look like we we can get everyone together?
