Starting a new thread in the appropriate forum.

After posting some stuff from my last trip, there seems to be some interest in doing Lake Powell Rendevous First week of Aug for 2012. This is just a preliminary thread, but open to anyone who might be inertested in joining. More info to come as the moth if July progresses.

FYI: I have never done a rendevous with CSR'ers before. So, I'm open to info and suggestions...

I'm interested. My schedule is tough these days, but I'd try to make something work. I am trying to head up this weekend for just a couple days, then return for the 2cd and 3rd. Then, maybe go up for the 4th, 5th 6th, 7th and 8th?

I refuse to go up there around a holiday, its absolute madness around the 4th. Though I do have some friends that are going to be up there at that time.

It was like that 20 some years ago , around bullfrog one year the law stayed out of the party but came around in the morning to pick up the dead, some fell off house boats hitting there heads , some drowned , some ODed it was just crazy.

We go out of Wahweap. Traffic is down a bit this year, from what I have heard from folks that have been up there a lot. It was pretty quiet when we went up at the end of May. If it is crowded, I just run up lake to get away from it...

have 310 in a slip now and taking the 230 up this weekend. unfortunately we are at bull frog.

i will be there till after the forth and then on and off till oct or sept. gerry wants to say there till after aug any way. best time to be at lake

dont know about offical numbers, but b f seems busier than i can remember in the last few years

going to get to try out new screen enclosure and new silver tops, i got make for the 230. in boulder a couple of years ago and never had used

can get net in the slip at b f but, it is slow and by noon each day shut down

any way will follow thread

ya; those days are long gone. the park service had to get that spring break stuff under control.

the final straw a bull frog was the year they got so drunk and wild, they had a bon fire going and were throwing the family-sober peeps stuff in the fire. any thing they could carry. lawn chairs, gas cans, coolers, tents, any thing you might have at the lake. fire extinguisher, life jackets, you name it and if it was loose it was gone. a riot realy.

Yea, Luckily all that crap moved to Havasu! :)

Yea this last trip I was on was hella busy as well. Escpecially for a non holiday weekend. The recession and high fuel prices dosen't seem to be keeping anyone from Powell this year.

Last year, it didn't seem to matter how far up lake we went, there was a houseboat in every cove all the way up into the Escalante River Arm.

hmmm. That may be a concern. My dad just went up today to stay for another week. I'll check in with him about the crowd level.

i think the recession, maybe has made it more crowed the lake.

people are staying closer to home and not traveling so far ect??????

thinking about biting the bullet and selling the 230. market for boats that size seems to be a little stronger this summer

any way back on task. what are your guys thoughts on a meeting half way down lake some where???

Well crap....looks like I'm not going to be able to do the first week of August. :smt101 Im to young to be losing my memory, but I was reminded that I have a prior engagement. I may have to do something around the 4th?

I may very well head up this Friday thru next Sunday (but I would be coming to Phoenix for the 2cd and 3rd). I don't mind traveling uplake a bit, but would probably need to do that after the 4th.

will have guests till the 8th or 10 of july so after the forth better

around aug better

should be here

have a 4 for 230

where are you don?

Hi Guys,
New Member here. Are you guys still planing a Powell trip? I am thinking about a trip in late Sept or early Oct.
I haven't towed a big boat to Powell from Phx yet and am curious about the climb from Black Canyon City to Sunset point

Thanks
Mike

I maybe down for this trip given I have the time available and finances.

I tow my 268 with a Ram 2500 Cummins 6.7 TD. And the area you are reffering too is a rough one (Black Canyon), but thats not as bad as going through the final stretch on the reservation about 30 miles outside of Page, AZ also known as (THE GAP). Your 270 is a little wider and heavier than my 268. I usually won't exceed 70MPH towing the 268 and and takes me on average about 6 hours from Tempe, AZ. NON STOP(Except in Flagstaff for Fuel)

Couple questions....your F250...is it the 6.0L? If it is...I'm sorry! :smt021and do you have the ability to keep an eye on your exhaust temps? Transmission Temps? and Coolant?

These will determine how well you will make it up the mountains.

I would also reccomend leavning WAY early in the morning like 3-4AM this was its out of traffic, and the weather is cooler. Towing in the middle of the day with 110-115 degree ambient temps are going to kill your truck towing that load.

Make sure you get fuel before hitting the lake, unless you like spending over $5/gal.

Make sure your bearings are well greased on the trailer and pay attention to your tire PSI. Get and IR temp gun to monitor bearing temps. Make sure your trailer and truck breaks are all in good condition (Electric Brakes with a controller are awesome) I switched from an old surge/hydraulic system on the trailer.

Bring spare tires if you can and get a bottle jacks, extra tools, Hazard Triangles are a good idea too. Extra water and as a precaution I have spare radiator hoses for the truck. Unless you have "AAA"

I'm sure you know most of this already, but I have been towing to powell with my family, and by myself for years now, and I don't take chances when it comes to that kind of drive in these kinds of temps.

Anything else, just ask!
