Lake Michigan port to port distances

Howdy folks,

How many miles from Northpoint marina to Hammond marina?

Thanks, Jason

Depending on how you like to run, I'd estimate 55-60 miles. I usually straight line it - some like to hug the coast.

Surely taking a trip like that you've got a good chartplotter that can help you out... that's a pretty agressive run for a 230 in my opinion...

Agreed very agrgessive and could be a little scary if the weather went to crap on us. More of just curiosity than anything. Some friends have a 70' in Hammond and want us to come down and spend a couple of nights. Thought it might be fun to have the 230 down there to play around with and I wanted to run it on the big pond without having to tow it all that way. But like you said probably not a good idea.
Thanks for the info.

It's all a weather play. I've been on the lake - and it's smooth as glass, but 30 minutes later, you'll see it kicking up.

I see you are in the Chain, so Northpoint was probably your closest entry to Lake Michigan... maybe consider trailiering further south, you'll still be able to get your boat down there as a 'play boat' - because you know that 70' probably never leaves the dock LOL...

True. We are just bored right now thinking about boating and this idea came up. We'll do some more research and try to get closer to Hammond without having to mess with getting too close to Chicago.
And actually my main motivation is the fact we're going to get a ride on the 70' one of the days we'll be there. Otherwise this plan wouldn't be crossing my mind. lol

On a somewhat related note, in 2009 I was planning on trailering our 330 Dancer to the Great Lakes to spend the summer. In anticipation of that trip I put together an excel spreadsheet with mileages between about 30 Great Lakes ports. Some are on Lk Michigan, some on Huron and a few up in the North Channel and Georgian Bay. I used Google Earth to put it together so it should be accurate to within a mile or two. It looks like one of those triangular shaped charts you see on a road map.

That trip fell apart when I bought our current boat but I still have the mileage chart on my computer.

If anyone wants a copy, PM me with your email address and I'll fire one off to you.

All you need is any northerly winds that would blow up and that lake trip would get ugly realy quickly.

Trailering through Chicago at rush hour would be better that dealing with Lake Michigan snot.

I use this often. It's like using the measure function of your chart plotter. Works good. Full screen, zoom, change units, charts...
