Anyone notice that Lake Michigan rose 2" in the past two weeks? Net inflow of 4.6 trillion gallons of rain from the tropical storms we've experienced. We came through the railroad bridge opeing on the Grand River yesterday and had to power up to keep a heading as the current on the river was very strong. Hope we get lots of snow this winter to keep levels going up!

Higher lake level is a good thing. But I remember in the 60's cottages in W MI falling into the lake because the water level got too high. I suspect the possibility of that happening anytime soon is very small.

Yes. Water levels would need to come up another 46" to reach the 1986 levels. The all time lows were in the 60s according to the Corp of Engineers web page. You can google 'lake michigan weekly water levels" and see the history. Three years ago we had to step down to get on to our boat. It is now at dock level and we get on it by stepping on the walk around deck. In 1986 we stepped from our dock to the swim plateform to get on it. What a change.

We have floating docks so the level change is a bit difficult to notice. What we have seen is water surges. The water in our marina has been on a 1 foot fluctuation every few hours. If we are navigating the river we get a reverse flow for a while. This has been about the strongest I have noticed in a few years now. Keeps things ( Docking ) intresting.
