Lake Lanier

Thinking about a vacation to Lake Lanier this summer. May leave on a Friday morning from Pittsburgh and drive to Lake Lanier and stay 3 or 4 days then leave Tuesday or Wednesday and head to Charleston, SC for a few days then head back home Sunday morning. For now I am researching Lake Lanier. We will not be taking our boat but may look to rent one for a day or two. Any suggestions on places to stay or places to rent a boat? Anyone here from the area where we can meet up and say hi? We have not picked a date yet but we usually go on vacation in early August but have to go before mid August (wife is a teacher and has to be back to school around the 20th).

Any particular area? North end of the lake? South? Any recommendations?

We will be looking for some water activities and sightseeing and general relaxing...lol.

To stay, there are several nice places on vrbo.com if you want a lake house. If you want a hotel, the only real choice is Lake Lanier Islands. They have a nice resort and some cottages on the water. Holiday Marina is just down the street and they have rentals as well as a company called Port Royale, www.bestinboating.com. I've lived here for a long time. happy to help with recommendations.

Thanks. My wife actually found Lake Lanier Islands and was talking about that so that seems to be at the top of her list so far.

Lake Lanier Islands is a great place. Water amusements for the family, hiking, golf, fishing and just cruising on Lake Lanier. During the week is the best as the lake is not crowded. Several boat rental facilities on Lake Lanier Island parkway as you go into the park. Great restaurants accessible by boat also. Most everything is on the south end of the lake. For quite go to the north end. Have fun!
