Anybody familiar with boating on Lake George? I'll be spending some time there this coming summer, and possibly purchasing a vacation home on the Lake. I have some old charts but couldn't find anything updated.

Lake George is in upsate New York, about 70 miles north of Albany, roughly 200 miles north of NYC. It's one of the larger lakes in New York (not part of the Finger Lakes), and one of the cleanest lakes in the country. It's also very historic as nearby Forts (Fort Henry, Fort Ticonderoga) were involved in the French and Indian war between France and England in the mid 1700's. See the movie "The Last of the Mohicans", especially the remake with Daniel Day Lewis. There are many battleships sunken in Lake George and it is very popular region for wreck diving.

Yea, that's the same Lake. If you've kept up with the story, I believe the captain and boat owner were just indicted. Apparently, the boat was modified to carry more passengers, but there was not the legal number of crew members aboard.

Yup, that's the lake.

Lake George is BEAUTIFUL! I have spent many years up there with my grandparents and aunt and uncle.

I haven't been up there in 4 years... dying to get back there.

We always camped at Rogers Rock at the northern part of the lake.

That was a sad situation. :smt009 From the pictures, I agree that Lake George is very beautiful place. Hope you have a great time up there Chuck!

I bought my boat there last year. Dunham bay Sea Ray was the dealer.

Lot of great spots. Paradice cove is a nice place to hang, also most any of the islands up the narrows. The water is a lot calmer there. I seem to find new places every year just to stop and drift.

We go every year in July

Enjoy

Back in the 60s and early 70s my family vacationed for two weeks at Lake George. We rented a Boston Whaler, and every day we would go into the Narrows and "claim" an island, and picnic, swim, and water ski. Great times!

Can't help with present day boating on the lake, but back then the Narrows were great; Paradise Cove and another nearby whose name I don't remember were nice, too. I'm sure there are lots of other spots but those are the ones I remember. The water is crystal clear (and cold!). You look over the side and it seems as though you're in 2 ft of water when it's 10+ ft deep.

We stayed in Bolton Landing and had to cross Northwest Bay to get to the Narrows. More than once we had quite a ride crossing that bay ahead of a storm in BIG (at least to me, then  ) waves. The Whaler was a trihull design, very stable and safe, but definitely not a smooth ride!

I know this is an old thread but I just got back from a week at Lake George. I trailered my center console up there and we loved it! The water is exceptionally clear and clean. And the surrounding mountains and greenery really made boating on the lake special. The lake is very deep..mostly in the 100 foot range. Any areas of concern are extremely well marked. There are many many little coves and islands to explore, anchor, swim. Tubing, water skiing, wake boarding was awesome! We stayed in a lakeside cabin with lots of dockage for the center console. Best of all....no flushing the engine or washing the boat! It's fresh water!

Can you share where you stayed? Was it on Lake George itself. We went for years until our rental was sold. haven't been able to find a similar location since. We were far enough from town for it to be quiet but close enough to still see the steam boats go by. They also had a small dock which is what prompted us to purchase our first Sea Ray 215. Wouldn't mind getting back up there for a week during the summers again.

We stayed at a place called Alpine Village alpinelg.com on 9N about 3 miles north of LG Village. Not fancy at all but the log cabins and knotty pine made it very "Adirondack." Docks hold about 4 boats.
