If anyone is interested in hooking up, our family will be spending Fri-Mon on the Delta.

Plan to launch at Brannon Island S.P. (good security for o/n parking of yer rig) and spend the first two nights at Decker Island. Maybe...

The rest of the weekend will be going where ever, but definitely at a pet-friendly marina that has ice cream. Thinking Franks Tract or maybe up towards Tower Park?

Give a shout and we'll be on the look-out!

Look us up at Oxbow Marina on Georgianna Slough. We have a great guest dock, playground, store, showers, etc. and a big field for the dogs to chase rabbits.

Unless something changes we should be there all weekend. Just look for our boat with a new CSR burgee on front and 2 Rhodesin Ridgebacks in back.

Blaine, The Brannan Island launch does look nice... the wife and I checked it out last year. We will be somewhere in the Delta during that period....... we just got a slip in the brand new South basin of the Sacramento Marina (a marina that does not mind me washing the boat often). We will be dropping it into the water/slip by next week. :smt038

It would be great to meet both of you fellas.

J -

Sounds good. I was wondering when all that plastic sheeting was going to come off the boat...

I was thinking about getting a slip there for October to free-up the trailer for a little painting and upgrade. I'll be looking for a report on the Sacto Marina.

hahaha.... you saw my polishing cocoon. It is all gone now.

I went down to the marina a couple times now.. the first time by myself.... the second time with my wife. The south basin is brand new they just took the old docks away and brought in all concrete docks. A new fuel dock, pump out dock, etc are also in place (they are putting the final touches on the fuel dock now). The North basin is built in the same fashion... nearly identical... concrete docks. It looks to me like all slips are now covered in both basins. I was surprised to learn that the North Basin was put in 25 years ago... it looks like it is 3-4 years old. Very well maintained. The staff is excellent. They have made it their business to know the marina and the details well and they are very helpful and friendly. We were invited to a Marina get together in Miller Park last Saturday..... a nice blues band and some BBQ. The harbor master made it a point to come over and talk with us.... he made sure we felt comfortable going to him with anything regardless of how big or small. A great guy who is a boater. There is wildlife abound in both marina basins.... turtles and fish everywhere.... average depth of 8 feet throughout the Marina (my slip I measured @ 10 feet). 24 hour security. I really think I am going to like it here. I think the biggest advantage the marina has is being off flow..... it is the only one in Sacramento that is off flow. No logs to worry about and your bottom job lasts longer. I have been down to the slip a couple of times just to feel out the "neighborhood" marina seems really quiet and family friendly which is perfect for us. There rates are very reasonable and one of the lower in Sacramento. I am looking forward to getting the boat in there. Best of all they have no problem with me making biodegradable suds.. as often as I like.

Interestingly enough the marina rebuild in the south basin made available more 30, 35, 40, 45, and 50 foot slips... this coupled with the economy has made slips available. For as long as I can remember there has always been a 6-9 year waiting list at this marina.

If you want to go down and check it out... just knock on my door and we can zoom down there.

So Jeremy, are you sure you'll be able to slip the boat knowing that you will not be able to clean every inch of the hull after each outing? ....or have you come up with a detailing plan while slipped?

I have worried about this myself :smt001 The 280 has bottom paint which is ugly the day it rolls onto the hull. We are in freshwater so the SeaRay factory bottom paint is coming off and barrier coat + anti-foul will be going onto the boat, primer and Trilux 33 on the outdrives. I want to extend a HUGE thank you to Frank W and the guys at Interlux for their input on protecting the bottom. I anticipate we will run the boat more often than we do now which will help to control any stuff that adheres to the bottom. I took a look at several of the boats in the marina especially the ones that seemed to be sitting for a bit. It appears only algae and slime grow and not that much of it.... on one boat the spider webs were thicker than the algae on the hull. I will hop into the water with my white scrubby and grab anything that sticks every once in a while. Additionally our slip is 14' wide giving me a good deal of room to hop in and scrub anything off the bottom when tied up. The bottom paint comes up 1 inch above the water thus all gelcoat is above the water line. I am working on modifying a telescoping pole to fit my Meguiars Microfiber Marine wash mitts to make it easy to get down by the water line. The rest of the boat actually gets a little easier as I will no longer need a ladder :smt038. Boat will still be on the weekly wash schedule.

A couple of advantages (cleanliness-wise) is that the marina slips are covered thus offering all day shade for the boat. When stored at home today we are uncovered outside. My wax should last a little longer. Covered will also cut down on some of the dust (certainly not all) that seems to fall 3 seconds after you final wipe the boat. The slip has floating concrete docks thus making for a very stable consistent height working area.

Nice clean potable water at the slip will make for easy wash down.

Last but not least we are keeping our trailer so that the boat can be brought home for compound, polish, wax, pulling drives, bottom paint touch up, greasing the gimbal bearing, etc.

I am sure there are things I am missing but it is a fun challenge to resolve them as they do. I guess this is the long way to say... yes I have a plan. Time will tell if it works.

I thought you might have a plan. Just curious, did you ever consider buying a Hydrohoist or other similar lift?

Nice slip also. Is there are way to remove the triangular fillers located at the front of the slip so you can stern the boat in???? It would also make for better socializing w/the neighbors. If not, don't every let Gary catch you with the shore power cords dangling in the water.

Jeremy tried that slip thing with the other boat and could not stand it and had to bring it back home on the trailer, how long is this going to last.

We will be out at least 1 day that weekend and would like to connect with fellow SR owners. We are on on Bethel Island at Sugar Barge marina, but can pretty much be anywhere in the delta baring extreme weather. I am tentively planning a dinner cruise one night to Guisti's in Walnut Grove. It's been a year since we've done that, but always a good time.

IMHO - I don't think I would be jumping in the water while in my slip. With some much electric power running around the docks it can be very easy for a short to happen in the water.:wow: Also you never know when somebody is going to run their power cords in the water and have a short.:smt021

I don't think I would want to see you while you're in your slip, to say nothing of a seeing a short power cord...

It's been years since visited guisti's, is it still an okay place for kids? I PM'd my cel number to you. It would be fun to hook up.

I just checked out the Sacto Marina on Friday. Apparently, there is a crime/break-in problem.

15 boats were broken into/vandalized in early August. More were broken into in April/May. (I did a lengthy search online)

In fact, while I was there a guy came up to us and said that he was broken into last week, only 5 days into being in his new slip.

Anyone hear anything like this? I'm a little hesitant to get a slip down there right now.

There are some better marinas in the area than Sacramento. The one problem with Sacto is if you want to go anywhere farther in the Delta you have that long ride to get there.

We looked there and after looking at others ended up at Oxbow Marina in Isleton. www.oxbowmarina.com Its only 45 minutes from Sacto, has 400+ slips, pool, clubhouse, store, etc. Plus you are in the middle of the Delta. And fuel economy is better in you car to get there than your boat. We have not had any theft problems because there are full time residents there. Check it out.

I said earlier in this thread that we would be spending the weekend at the guest dock at Oxbow. We have had a change of plans.

There is a small cove just north of Tower Park near Westgate County Park. We will have a small raft up there for the weekend if anyone wants to stop by for a cold one. It's on the way to Giusti's so you shouldn't miss us.

Just look for the 340 named "Pretender".

We plan to be out on the Mokelumne on Saturday with a trip to Guisti's in the evening. We'll try and find you sometime in the afternoon. Based on today's weather, it should be a glorious weekend.

Well we are in tonight will be night #3 and I am enjoying the wet slip life thus far.

The news stations and the paper seemed to hype up the recent break in at the marina. I read/listened to reports of anywhere from 15-30 boats along with talk of spray paint, graffiti, etc. I spoke with the marina staff..... 12 boats were broken into and there was no spray paint or graffiti.

The one thing we have to remember here is that the South basin of the marina is brand new. It is oriented much differently than the old south basin and thus will likely have a few gotcha's in the way of security for a period of time. Additionally construction is not quite finished and there is more traffic than normal on the South basin docks. I am thoroughly impressed with the Marina staff response the the recent break in. I talked with and met the security guards on Tuesday and Wednesday night when I was down @ the boat. There were 3 guards on duty. My understanding is that previously there was only a single guard. I also met one of the Marina staff who is on duty until 12 midnight. The guards are approaching folks, writing a traffic log and asking questions. I get the feeling they (Marina staff and Security) are very serious about stopping any further break in's.

I have been a customer of Sac Marina since Aug 11.... boat has been in the slip for 3 days. I am very happy so far and I really like the direction and plans this marina looks to be headed. Two pennies from the marina newbie.

Clayton haven't we had 30 glorious weekends in a row? That is why we boat here right? I have never been to Guisti's but it sounds like several folks like it (who am I to argue). I will talk to the wife and see about floating down there on Saturday.
