Any KY or Lake Barkley boaters here? It's my favorite place to go boating. I spend many weekends on Lake Barkley. Put in at Buzzard Rock Marina and always have a great time. I also do some boating on the Ohio and Green Rivers in Henderson and Webster County.

Welcome Jacob!

I'm from Northern KY. Have been to Barkley twice but it has been a while. Camped and used the ramp at Hurricane Creek. One I got used to the shallow depth (compared to Cumberland) I enjoyed the lake.

I do all my boating in Henderson Ky. I generality go to the islands or toward Evansville IN. and just float back. I've been thinking about going to the lakes. I've people tell me once you go to the lakes you won't like the river any more. Too close to the river for that.

Wish2Fish-I've never been to Lake Cumberland. My brother-in-laws and I are trying to make a trip there. We're thinking about getting a cabin and staying for a couple of days. I'm all for it.

khaynes-Being in Henderson, you really should make a trip to the lakes. Barkley is the better lake for boating. KY can get a little rough sometimes. Going to the "island", Dogtown and Newburgh beach are great, but the lakes are better. I have to agree with whoever told you about going to the lakes. I live in Poole and like going to the Green River and Ohio, but I absolutely love the lakes.

I live in Louisville, Ky. I spend most of my time on lake Cumberland, and on occasion I go to Rough river just because it's close. I prefer Cumberland but it's a 2 1/2 hour drive for me so I go when I can. I haven't been to Kentucky lake, lake Barkley or Dale Hollow since I was a kid. I'm just glad to see some more Kentucky boaters on here.

does it help with the friction?

90% of our boating is on Kentucky and Barkley. The rest on the Ohio at Evansville and Patoka Lake. I agree with you on the lakes being better. We usually have lunch at Buzzard Rock. Its a really nice marina. Eddy Creek is really nice also. If you boat on Barkley GET A MAP/CHART or stay in the channels. Kentucky is a lot more forgiving. You need to go to Lake Cumberland. Its a GREAT lake. We try and get there at least once a season.

we go to lake barkley quite a bit. one of my good friends has a house at the mouth of eddy creek so we go as often as we can. we also frequent the ohio river just out of sheer convenience but much prefer the lakes. i would like to hit lake cumberland and LOTO but not going to have time this season.

Only twice have I ever boated on the Ky or Barkley and that was with a can boat. Being used to deep lakes I forgot my rules of the road and found myself in short water and lots of tree stumps. Fortunately, being a pontoon at slow speed with clear water, we were able to walk ourselves out - but my pride was still damaged... next time was fine though.

Ditto on the river vs lake. We grew up on the KY and now on Dale Hollow the river seems limiting and, dare I say it, boring.

Love DH even though it is 3 hrs south of where we live. Me and my brother have two boats down there.

Anybody else on DH?

Hi Guys
Iam on Lake Cumberland, been boating there for 10 years and still a lot of lake to see.
I am thinking of moving down to KY lake in a few years just so I can take the boat to the Gulf in the winter.

So you mean to actually float the boat to the Gulf & back? That would be cool. Have you looked into how long that will take? Would you go the Mississippi or the TennTom or whatever it's called?

Obviously you guys have been laid up too long over the winter!

But THAT would be an interesting thread...
