KVH4 DSS Questions

My new boat has a KVH dish. The marina that we are in includes cable as part of the monthly rental fee. Can I switch between shore cable and KVH? I didn't have my shore cable connector today, so I couldn't try it. The sales folks thought if I turned off the KVH unit, then I could.

Or, do I need to install a a/b switch or something?

Also, looking at the wiring, there is one wire that comes into a 3-way splitter. There are 3 sat receivers on the boat. For some reason now, all 3 tv's are hooked into 1 receiver.

I intend to go ahead and order DirecTV. I am assuming the KVH dish can support more than receiver?

Since there are a bunch of unplugged cables back there, I am also assuming the cable is in place to run 3 separate ones. Interestingly, all the units are located in the salon, as opposed to near the tv's. I hope the remotes have a good range, so they can change the channel in the salon from the stateroom.

No cables are labelled, so some trial and error reqiring is going to have to occur.

There should be an A/B switch somewhere (in the line after the dish and before the split to the different receivers. Directv will work great on your system, just have all the receiver ID information when you call.

Our setup has two recievers and 5 tv sets. One receiver is in the master stateroom and only controls that TV. The other receiver is in the main salon. Whatever the salon receiver is set to can be seen on all the other TVs. The other TVs can also be set to show a vcr or dvd. Also, we have an RF remote for the salon so that you can change channels from anywhere on the boat.
