Putting a KVH on a 44 sundancer 2006 and wanted to know if I ned a custom mount and what angle-16 degrees or 10 degrees?
thanks

I just (yesterday) had the M1 installed on my 44da. Used a local installer in NY who highly reccomended having a custom mount made. It came out even better than I could have imagined, its only aroun 3.5 inches high, custom angle so you dont need any shims, really blends with the angle of the top and the powder coat came out perfect. You can buy one of the "pre made" 5" mounts and buy the shims to match the angle of the top to keep it level, but at least up here it came out the same price (325) to have it custom made, and the shorter mount really blends well with the look of the boat and the small dome M1. He came to boat and measured the angle, so I dont know what it was. I will try to drop him an email and ask him what the angle was and post it if he gets back to me. Good luck.

This is what I used last year on my 330 when I installed the M1.

In the directions KVH states that you dont want the sat on the same plane as the radar unless it's something like 7 feet away as it could possibly interfere with or damage the sat electronics. I also used the adapter plate for the M1 and installed a 4 degree wedge under the Radome! They also make a mount for open array radar if you're interested. Todd

Sua Sponte, check out BattleWagon; www.battlewagonmounts.com. Polished stainless, no need for a wedge for radar, 2 year warranty, and made in Cleveland! If you cannot mount the satellite dome the recommended distance from the radar, it must be higher (or lower) than the radar. KVH implies that your magnetron beam will damage the satellite.

Agreed re: the kvh above or below the radar. On the 44da, the hard top slopes down, so the kvh mounted on a low mount all the way aft stays below the radar open array. Either way, to be safe, consider not having the KVH operating while the the radar is spinning. My understanding is it only can cause a problem if both running at same time?

A photo of a proper installation above the radar height. Food for thought......

FYI, depends on the power of the radar.
2kw units are fine in the same plane as the radar, not enough power to fry the electronics. At least, KVH told me that 3 years ago...and my M3 still works...

But, no question the dual mount looks better, and also prevents a "blind" spot in the radar return.
