I have a couple spots on my generator - I would like to touch up. I have done all of my projects and am down to cleaning/detailing the bilge. Scratched the front of the heat exchanger pulling the muffler out. Kohler has paint - but I have to order it - was wondering if that is a universal color? Or if it unique to them. $19 a can was a little expensive. But...

Did you ever meet someone at your marina that was so anal about his boat that you said to yourself, if this thing ever comes up for sale?

That would probably be myself - ask my wife - a friend climbed in the bilge and bumped the top of the oil filter and put a slight dent with his knee - I replaced the oil filter - because it bugged me. In 2007 - my 2000 - 260 Sundancer looked brand new. I know they have drugs and therapy for people like me.

Wow. Not only do I want to buy your 320 when its my time to upgrade, but I want to reach that point where all my projects are done! Hopefully later this year.

When I was obsessing over mine, I decided to do a complete re-paint of the sound box for my Kholer. Instead of using their paint, I used the premium rust-o-leum gloss white. Looks incredible and matches the bilge and engines now. I masked off the stickers and trimmed with an exacto so they are still perfect.

Scott,

I have the same issue........anal about my boat and can't stand to be gouged for a can of paint. My solution was to go to a Dupont automotive paint supplier, take a removable piece of the Kohler with you and buy a quart of acrylic enamel automotive paint that matches the generator. I use Preval sprayers (from Home Depot) to mix up what I need every year. I just use lacquer thinner for thinning and for clean up. I've done this for my Westerbeke and for my Caterpillars and it does a much nicer job simpler and easier than using rattle cans, but I don't know if it is much cheaper.

Yes! I'm never finished working on the boat. My latest adventure was cleaning the bilge with a tooth brush. Pretty clean down there.

During the winter I replaced the salon TV with a Samsung HD, with a lot of help from Bill. Next winter will probably replace the other 2 analog TV's. I believe my boat to be a work in progress!

I'll second what Frank said about the Preval sprayers. Just one word of caution - don't try to do a big area all at once. The propellant can get cold (the more you use it) and it will cause the paint to start spitting... very rude!

If you can't take a piece of the genny off... A while back I was touching up an Eagle trailer. I called them and they gave me the paint code (DuPont). I took that to a local store (like Frank mentioned) and had a quart made up. Heck, you might even get lucky and find the paint code in a manual or online.

Thanks everyone for the ideas. This is just my spring list - I am always doing projects. Before it gets hot and humid - will be another coat of wax. My wife thinks I am insane. But...

I am far less picky with the house than I am with the boat.

Finally got around to touching the generator up. The paint matches perfect.

Amazing what a little paint will do, huh? Did you go the DuPont route?

I ended up trying the Kohler touch up - with a little masking tape it turned out great.
