My generator will run for about 30 minutes and then stop. It displays the CO 1 fault code. This is a carbon monoxide code of some sort. Has anyone encountered this problem? My boat is a 2007 and the genset has 20hrs.

There could be a couple of causes. The first that comes to mind is that you have a faulty CO detector. The other, which has happened repeatedly to me, is that the generator becomes overloaded. Don't ask me why, but the fault code that shows up on my display is CO when the hot water heater, AC, and stove are on together. I reset the fault, and turn off one of the 3 and we're back in business. I can reproduce the CO fault anytime I overload the generator.

I had many issues with my genny this year. Kohler replaced the kit listed below which fixed the CO problem, for what I was told they are having a lot of issues with this. Hopefully it's not the same issue for you.

Here is the kit number they replaced.

Original Issue Date: 6/06
Model: 5/7.3ECD and 4/6EFCD
Market: Marine
Subject: CO Sensor Module Upgrade Kits GM48044 (60 Hz) and GM48030 (50 Hz)

According to my info:

CO-1 is "carbon monoxide detected, shutdown level".

CO-2 is "excessive exhaust backpressure".

CO-3 is "CO sensor heartbeat missing (communications dead)".

CO-5 is "carbon monoxide detected, warning level".

CO-6 is "CO sensor defect (sensor dead)".

Given what this code intends to mean, I'd check to ensure you don't actually have a CO leak.

Hope this helps...

From what i understand there is a sercice bullitin put out by Kohler to replace the catalytic converter. Hopefully this will be a warranty issue. Was you kit covered under the warranty?

Mine was covered under warranty but it took 2 months to get the part, the part was on nationwide backorder.

I had mine replaced as well. Took about 2 months. The design is completely different and really changes the water flow on the catalytic converter.
