Knocking on the door to October...can't deny winterizing much longer

Whaaat they're jerks , unbelievable they charge extra.. I cant believe it do they discount t if they dont get you in in the first of may or just tell you sorry we're really swamped.

Up here the season and slip contract is from April 1st thru October 31. The marina slips are leased to the management company by the state. The management company runs the marina proper and takes care of the dock maintenance.
The lift services are performed by Skipper Buds.

Movie night on the hook. Cool night so no need to run the A/C and beautiful morning for breakfast. Fall is a great time to boat in the Great Lakes region.

Yeah, I think the charge is more about telling people to get out in time than it is an offer to let people stay. They just did it in a friendly way.

Here they are happy to leave the long season folks in so the y can deal with all the ones who want out early.and serviced. Stay in late means early in because they need to get the boat outa the way to get at the ones behind

Extended season here in Maryland. Several boaters have pulled and got things all tucked in for the winter lay up. We are still actively boating, today we are going to break all time October record, temps to top out at 96 degrees. Have a feeling this will not last much longer, but enjoying it while it lasts. :)

Washing my boat got delayed. I'm moving my MIL from a rehab center to a long term care facility right now and got busy with that yesterday.

As luck would have it, my wife's oldest son is playing on a doubles tennis team. They won the PNW tournament for the over-18 age group. Best in the PNW is quite an accomplishment.

This next week they are playing in Surprise, AZ which is only about 15 minutes from our condo. I insisted my wife be there to see him play. It's the Nationals Tournament and they're guaranteed 4 matches. Depending on how they do will determine how they advance from there. She flew down yesterday and will be home in a week, so all the packing and moving is mine to do.

I'm going to wash the boat this afternoon and my son will help me get all the isinglass up after he gets off work. That will be the end of the winterizing. Then back to moving my MIL.

I did mine last weekend, I'm in Colorado, here temps are not too bad yet (in the high 40s and 50s at night) but Im going on vacations next week and the less I want is to come back to find out that nature threw us a last minute cold front and I lost my investment.

I changed oil and oil filter, gas filter and tried to fog, didn't worked because of my newbie fault, I didn't knew that you have to completely fill the gas filter with the gas mixture, I filled about 3/4 and the boat stall right away and got me scared for about 30 minutes trying to maintain the boat on for more than 30 seconds. I thought was something wrong with my mixture and to be honest even came to my mind "damn it, I should pay attention to the guys that say they dont fog in the forum", then I put the new filter, the stall issue continue (second part of the newbie mistake, you have to fill the filter with gas full before install it), finally it worked fine, lesson learned, next time I will probably try to fog again now that I know.

Also, removed the Tstat and drained the whole thing, even removed a couple of hoses to confirm there is no water, then filled back with West Marine -100 antifreeze (the blue one) until came out. (4 jugs)

Now I am debating if drain or not the antifreeze when the temps start going to the 20's. Read a lot of threads and all of them have good points but still can't decide, points that I have learned from people here:
1- Air dont freeze ---good point
2- Antifreeze and the anti-rust additives -----good point to protect the investment
3- you are going to have the engine replaced or rebuild before it rusted at the point of break ----another good point

and, no matter is -100 there is maybe a .00000001% of get frozen, well, In Colorado I have never experienced crazy low temperatures, actually I have never experienced even -20, but, if there is a .00000001% of freeze it worth to avoid that chance and dont live the nightmare of throw out my investment while still paying the loan.

By the way, the only part that I still missing and still debating is the cover, my boat lives in a RV/Boat storage, not covered, this year I spent 2k in custom bow and cockpit snap on covers, I was thinking to leave those installed and put the after market one on top of it for more protection BUT, the guy who made the cover told me that he don't recommend that because 1- the rubbing of both covers are going to kill some of the life of the custom cover and 2- it wont be air circulation enough inside of the boat and I will have mold issues. What do you guys do? just in case, shrink wrap is not an option in my opinion, too expensive for one time use. Should I put both or remove the expensive one and leave the after market full cover?

I’m out! She is tucked away safely inside for the winter. My mind is now full of thoughts of firewood, leaves, rain gutters and storing the deck furniture. Ugh.....depressed

Regarding the cover. I have a cheap aftermarket cover that I put on over the regular canvas covers - BUT I am stored indoors, so it is more of a dust cover for me. Don't think I would do that outdoors due to 1. wind etc causing the covers to rub and 2. Moisture getting between the covers and causing a mess. I would only use the winter cover and store the canvas.

It is always a good feeling to have things tucked away and secure before the gales of November move into West Michigan. The best layup days are sunny and warm with little or no wind. Before retiring, I used to pick days that were 40 degrees with the rain blowing sideways to pull the boat.

Thought you sold the Tiara?

I'm still weeks away my folks left this morning from here with a really pretty boat in some cold northern blowing weather to move to Florida so half a loop again but this ones work so they'll be putting in long days independent of weather with promises if being back in time for my 5 year olds Birthday on the 26th, we'll pull my little boat out on the 27th

I’m headed out on the water Monday thru Wednesday, forecast is sunny and mid to high 60’s.

Winterized mine today. Pulled the swim platform too. Needs re-cored.

Well I did the deed yesterday...took the sad trip up to the winter storage facility. Based on the current forecast for this coming weekend I'm (so far) feeling okay about the decision.

But if/when the last two weekends of October turn out to be absolutely perfect weatherwise I hope someone from the area will thank me :) Had I kept my boat in another 3 weeks you could be sure it would be cold/raining each of those weekends.

I'm sad to be done for the year but am already looking forward to working on my boat while she's high and dry.

On the west shore of Lake Michigan, yesterday was the October day you hold out for.View attachment 75632 View attachment 75633
That looks nice. Not like that up my way. Cool, wet, windier than heck, some big waves on the lake. I had the engine hatch up. To do that you have to unhook the bottom of the rear canvas. Some strong wind got a hold of it, whipping/snapping it around a bit. By the time I got a hold of it the big isinglass window was broken all the way across.:(
