Kent Island Area

A get-together this summer sounds like lots of fun! We just got out the 2007 calender (okay, we're a little slow... ) and have started marking off boating weekends. With the kids into various camps and things, summer gets crowded :smt013 so we try to reserve boat time early.

There's a great cove off the Magothy River that would be a good spot for a raft-up.....

Did anyone else take their baby out this weekend? 72 degrees in January! Can you believe it? We went for a short ride, went up and down Ego Alley, tied up a Pussers, ate, walked around, etc...

What a great day. I've never regretted doing the engine room heater thing in anticipation of winter days just like these.

Larry- you lucky dog (pun intended!)!
Ego Alley must've been awesome yesterday.
Much jealousy...

Yep, that's a real lucky little pooch in my avatar (pun gotten.) ;) What a life she leads!

Just being out was awesome and in less than three months, we'll ALL be out there.

Much anticipation...

Gentlemen,
Don't forget we Potomac River SRO refugees. My delivery cruise was from Bay Bridge Marina/North Atlantic Marine Group down the bay and up the Potomac on 1 April 06. 25 knots on the bow rounding Point Lookout...the fog bell on the 420 set a steady rythmic clang, clang...but the thundering cathedrals of torque kept up a steady beat. We've since been back to Solomons Island and south towards the Rappahannock. Let us know what the plans may be and we will burn the necessary diesel to get there

regards

Skip, I too am a former Potomac River boater with a similar experience. We were on our way back from The Tides one stormy day in our 260. The bay was so rough it took us over four hours to make it from the Tides to Coles Point Marina. Normally a 1.5 hour trip. We stopped there, soaked to the bone, to gas up and the women in the group declared "they better have room for us here 'cause we're not moving." They had to rearrange some boats docked on a bulkhead, but they did take us in for the night. That night, I got the go-ahead to get a bigger boat.

We still boat with that group of folks and they head downriver to do bay cruises 2-3 times a summer. As the summer approaches and we start firming up boat trips, you're more than welcome to join the caravan.

Larry, thanks very much!

We had a similar experience--got caught at Coles Point on a Sunday with winds 35-40 and a small craft advisory on the tidal Potomac and Chesapeake. We had a 320 at that time (October 2005) and the waves were so violent that even at 9 knots SOG we got the entire boat out of the water more than once. Not a fun trip. Mother in law on board to boot.

Enter the 420. Life is good.

OK Skip, my mother in law story...

I just got my 38 late last year. My mother in law was up here early for the christmas holiday. You know what the weather has been like up here this winter, so we went for a boat ride over to Ego Alley and docked at Pussers. When it came time to get back aboard the tide was up and the swin platform was about a foot below the dock level. I made a comment to the effect of "getting back on will be a piece of cake." I jumped on and took my mother in law's hand. She took her step and her pant leg opening caught the cleat on the boat. Picture this: right foot on Pussers, left foot caught on River Gal's cleat, general indecisiveness, gap between boat and dock quickly widening, one panicking mother in law, one stunned wife, one laughing son in law. I'm not sure, but I think I may have felt her up while saving her :smt009 It all happened so fast

I know I just opened the door to a bunch of wise cracks, but I had to act, and quickly. :smt001

Sounds like someone had too much of that famous Pussers Rum.

Larry, you don't by any chance have that on video do you? that would be....well priceless!

Well, we did take some Pussers rum home, but I don't think Granny had any in her. I don't need video, Jim... I've got the vivid memories  We were all laughing about "The Incident" over Christmas. My mother in law's pretty cool.

I did manage to snap this guy cruising around in a Santa outfit. He was getting a lot of attention.

Freezing in Abingdon!

If the raft up is open to new members too, my wife and I are interested in getting in on some trips. We have a 33 and our friends have a 40. Would like to get more involved and make new friends on the bay.

Looking forward to spring and meeting up on a cruise!

I think this board is about the only thing keeping me sane as the sleet is pelting the house! :smt101

Hi Todd,
We now have 4†of snow under about 2†of sleet and frozen rain. I’d rather think about places to hook up this summer on the bay.
Suggestions:
Langford – Cacaway Island
Corsica River
Conquest Beach
Wye River – Shaw Bay

Any other ideas?

There are a couple of good places near Dobbin Island on the Magothy (of course, that's above The Bridge  ).

Jeff

Ditto jrirvine's & JeffM's suggestions, plus a few more:

Swan Creek (just north of Rock Hall)
Broad Creek off Magothy River
Fairlee Creek
The outside part of Worton Creek (weather dependent but great sunset views)
Still Pond (my all time favorite)
Ordinary Point
Veazy Cove

Oh, and all of these are "above the bridge"

I have been to a few of the spots and have spent many days on Fairlee Creek and Dobbins Island on the Magothy. I am looking at the Cruising Guide to learn more about the spots you referenced. We are looking forward to a great summer. Thanks for the suggestions . Hopefully we can plan some get togethers this summer. I am particularly interested in Cacaway Island and Still Pond.

Is there a raft-up brewing up here?

Is anyone going on any of the Clarks Landing trips? A few of them look pretty good... Great Oak Landing on 22JUN, St. Michaels right after the fourth of July, and Cambridge in mid-September.

Fairlee Creek (Great Oak Landing) is a great place for a raft off, we do it a couple times a year.............bring your dinghy to get those frozen drinks at Jellyfish Joels

Trebbel...........I used to live in Abingdon, we are in Fallston now, where do you keep your boat?

John

Larry, we will be at several of the Clark’s Landing Getaways.
Great Oak Landing, St, Michaels, Aquapalooza at Conquest Beach, Tilghman Island and Cambridge – Hope to see you and many others from CSR at these.

Hi John-

I grew up in Fallston (Woodfield) and my parents kept their boat at Gunpowder Cover for many years. My boat is at Baltimore Marine Center in Canton and we live off of Laurel Bush in Abingdon. NEVER thought I would be back in Harford Co. but I am really enjoying it.

Wow, small world.......we moved to Fallston in 1965 when I was 5 before Fallston was Fallston, there is another member (Stromiester) of CSR that lives in Fallston. Anyway maybe if this raft off happens all of us can hook up.

I have kept boats at Gunpowder for years and currently store our 370 there and bought our 210BR from Don Rogers...............Don is a class act!!!!!!!
