Keep Track of Rising Prices

I just requoted a job this morning using Aircraft Quality 4140 Steel - 2-3/4" round bar x 12'.... in March 2020 that steel was worth $1,991.00 today its $5,296.00...this increase will get pushed all the way to the consumer with margin increases along the way.
Damn! Most of our manufacturers have done a 15-25% increase, which is retroactive, but that’s ridiculous.

We use a lot of this type of steel so I asked for a mill run… meaning order it direct from the steel mill to my size and spec… they said earliest delivery is October

So aside from the delivery lead time was the price better meaning the supplier is gouging due to lack of supply or is it true that the raw materials and manufacturing costs have just increased. That is way more that the 6% inflation rate that is being reported in general.
CD

Most is lack of supply. Some has to do with input costs. But in general mills are not meeting current demand.

Our steel is up anywhere from 20% to 100% plus. Used to pay $4/lb for brass, today it's $8/lb. Carbon steel has gone from $0.50-0.60/lb to $1.40. It's a whole lot of fun.

That 6% inflation the lying gubberment tells is a new fuzzy math calculation.

Using the algorithm from 1970’s it’s closer to 12%-14%. Real numbers inflation there folks.

Wait till you price 3/4 " x 10' grey electrical pipe, 1 year ago $8.40 a piece checked 2 weeks ago as I needed 300', its now $40.40 a section! My supplier won't stock it as price changes daily will only order it on a as need bases.I want to know how they justify that price jump for plastic!

If you don’t want it don’t buy it. If you take time to think about it, it will be gone.
Unfortunately outside fiber optic cable and all its connectivity components are part of the infrastructure which has been placed on a fire and then gas added to it via Government programs. Our manufacturers are so busy, we’ve come to a halt with 1.5 year deliveries now on the cable itself. Plus, we’ve had to go back to distribution and tell them their prices have increased for all orders not planning to ship before 1st quarter 2022. That’s just my side.

Outdoor duct for cable is same day pricing. Meaning, you have 24 hours to order from the receipt of quote otherwise it’s subject to change. With Winter and half the US having frozen ground, this may allow for a little catch up, but not much of one.

Well one way to stop eating fast food is to make it so you can’t afford it :)

yep. people want $15/hour for a 'holdover' job that they want to make into a career. Meanwhile inflation will be through the roof and that $15/hour will be like $5/hour today. SMH

I’ve had these conversations with my kid over the years and she gets it. Her friends don’t, and that’ll be an issue when the next generations take over.

It's mind blowing the lack of education many kids get at home...

No pic but there's a McDonald's near Gaylord MI with help wanted on their sign. $20/hr. Nuts....
Most of the fast food joints in my area are still drive thru only.

Our yacht club hired a busser at $16. Two weeks later he wanted $18 and while the officers were thinking on it, he let them know he was leaving as a nearby restaurant was giving him $22 to be a busser…

Yeah, and many of those workers are illegal immigrants who were making $30/mo south of the border.

They sneak in here and all of a sudden they want their Rights.

I just went under contract on a home that for the same price 1 year ago would have included a pool and a sailboat access canal with 12k+ lift in a captains walk.

it has no pool and no water access at all

now they’re getting 6-700k for a home that needs 200k worth of work to actually be worth 500k if it’s on the water.
