Here is the reality of what is happening in our country, maybe not to your kid, your sister's kid, or your neighbor's kid. My point is simple, there are thousands of college educated kids that were told a college education was their ticket to the American Dream and now they are deep in debt, working a full time minimum wage and qualifying for government assistance. It's wrong, meanwhile many of the companies they work for like Amazon pay ZERO federal taxes. The system is broken. I am not advocating their college debt be paid by tax payers but, they need a living wage.

In Canada 40% of the population does not pay any income tax according to an article on the internet. No idea what it is in the US.

Well you may want to go look at the actual data as opposed to the article's narrative. Here's what you would find:

Jan 1990 Pct of recent grads considered underemployed: 42.9
December 2020 Pct of recent grads considered underemployed: 40.3
Range over that period was approx 48 to 36. Has been very consistent and actually trending down since 2015.

Jan 1990 Pct of recent graduates in low wage jobs: 8.6%
December 2020 Pct of recent grads in low wage jobs: 10.8%
Range: 8.6 to 15%. Since the high mark in 2010, it's been trending down.

Median salary of grads with bachelors degree has gone from $46k to $50k.

The narrative appears to be false. It's been pretty steady over the years since I graduated, and In fact has been trending down. Thise aren't my numbers, but the Fed Reserve Bank of NY.

The narrative that Amazon pays ZERO federal is a fiction as well. Plenty of recent articles discussing it. Their 2019 annual report makes a 2.3 billion provision for income taxes. Granted, they use the Research and Development tax credit to defer a lot of taxes -- but they do a ton of R&D, say like delivery drones, etc.

The American Dream doesn't guarantee success...just a chance at it.

Looks like Amazon paid $162 million in federal tax in 2019.

As well as some deferred tax.

"In a blog post on Thursday, Amazon touted the fact that the company had “over $1 billion in federal income tax expense” in 2019. However, that total includes the $162 million federal tax bill, as well as another $914 million federal tax bill that the company says has been deferred until a later date. (Federal tax laws companies to delay tax payments on certain income, including some foreign earnings and long-term investments in items such as equipment or machinery.)"

My step-son is a supervisor at a plastics manufacturer here is western PA. His company cannot find good workers. They start out at about $13/hour and it is easy work. They actually offered a $500 bonus to any worker that could go 2 months without missing a day. This included new hires. He said only about 1/3 of the employees got the bonus. Most new hires quit after a day or two. They make vinyl trim boards. Nothing heavy. They load it into the machine and stack it when it's done. Very clean environment and they can wear shorts and t-shirts and safety glasses. They have great benefits too. He said the applicants either can't pass the drug test or they quit soon after because they don't want to work.

Ads for jobs all over here in NC. Factory, truck driving, plant maintenance.
I have friends that can't open their restaurants because now that the state is more "open" can't get help to wait on the customers.
But yet there were no issues like this over a year ago.

We’re back to the days when the Government will pay you more to stay home and become part of the flat ass society.
This infrastructure bill is gonna be great. All 25% of it for actual infrastructure. We’ll have all of these labor jobs and no one wanting to do them.o_O

Yep. If you make less than about $40,000 or so you are further ahead quitting and living off the system. We know a girl with 2 kids and boyfriend is in jail and she gets about $3000/month untaxed and free healthcare and food stamps.

Even fresh out of college (way to many years ago) with a $9/hr job I never would have considered it.

I like being able to look myself in the mirror.

I agree but they make it so appealing for many to live off the system. I was on work comp for a couple of year and couldn't wait to go back. Even begged the Dr to release me. I feel worthless if I'm living off of others but I have a conscience.

I got one right now, haven't paid rent in 10 months plus distroying the apartment claims he's not working but he's self employed and gone everyday and I can't get him evicted. In to me for close to $10000.00 right now!

And didn't Biden just extend the "no eviction" rule for another 3 months? Good luck.
