My KEC DVD was dead (no power) this weekend. I "toyed" with the connections; but I think its just dead at this point. I know there are some threads on the topic but in this electronic age a bit outdated. Can anyone tell me if they replaced the DVD, what they used, and how difficult it was? I note I need a key of some sort. I was unable to unscrew from below the area connecting the current DVD and pull it out, but I see its still in its metal cage. I assume I just unscrew the dvd from its metal cage and use those "keys" to remove? Will the electric "plug" I have work in a new one?

alternatively, should I just buy a bigger tv than my current 13 inch and buy one with a dvd?

Just thought I would bring this up again. I have the old player removed; what I want to know-- will I need to rewire now with a new harness from a new dvd player? it looks like every dvd player I can actually get a picture of has at least 1 extra wire (mine only connected red and black to a 2 wire harness). Assume when I buy another one; will need to rewire the red/ black and possibly even the yellow (12v?)? AGain, I know there are older posts on the topic, though my search won't work, but nothing in the last few years. If you used something as a replacement, it would be of great help to know what brand, and if you needed to rewire. Thanks!

If you end up replacing the TV, get one with a HDMI connection. You can rip your dvds (or those you rent, if you so chose) to your ipod/ipad/android device and play them directly on the device or the TV via HDMI cable. You can also get a storage drive to put all of the ripped files on, and have an entire library (movies and music) at your fingertips without having to have the physical media on the boat.

I picked up an inexpensive wireless storage drive and have ripped about 25 of my own DVDs to watch on the boat if it rains. Since then, my sister has done the same for road trips in the car with my nieces to keep them entertained. The wifi drive allows up to 4 connections at the same time so they both watch whatever they want to on their iPods.

Happy to talk with you more about the setup if you are interested.

Thanks to both of you. On the VST-DVD-- almost all of them are British and priced in pounds? I will keep looking at them though. Thank you.

Jim, I know you have a different boat but what TV did you end up buying? I think if I could make it reasonably, safely fit, I would prefer to just upgrade the TV. Do you have a 15" cabinet like I do? I'm not sure if I go larger than 15" if it will lock in place, or if I need it to. Thanks

Daddydox,
Here's a link to where I posted my upgrade/install in the 300 Thread. Have to leave the office now, but will look for more questions from you later this evening. PM me your # if you want to talk by phone.

Wow thanks James. The set up looks great. I need to give it some thought. The TV and current AC power is probably the easiest. Just need to find time!
Thanks,
Jon
