Recently saw a post by a boater that had hit something, damaged the drives and was frustrated the BoatUS insurance company was unresponsive, repeatedly asked for documentation previously provided.

If they had a marine insurance agent, like Global Marine Insurance, to assist them it would be better...

Good question to ponder. I recently changed insurance, during the process very unhappy with the Agent that I had previously.

I moved to BoatUS based on some recommendations that I trust.

Not sure if I will use an agent again... But your point about a claim might be a factor. I am not convinced (in my previous situation) that the agent would add any value on a claim. Just my guess.

I have been told by regular insurance agents, they don't get involved with claims.

My agent researched and found a very reasonable yacht policy. It helps that he also has a yacht. Filed a relatively small claim last year and other than explaining what happened and filling out some paperwork, everything went smoothly.

My independent home property casualty agent regularly intervenes on behalf of his clients with the insurance company and his input is often what gets the parties to agreement.

Global marine insurance is a marine specialty company that I have heard from others will regularly assist their clients with the insurance companies claims department.

Your mileage may vary

sounds like if you have a good agent they are worth keeping.

And my point in posting this was to raise awareness a good agent can be your ally if you can find one. I'm sure there are plenty out there that will not help out. Also my agent at home is fantastic and likely could write my yacht policies, but I only want a marine specialist agent that writes and deals with marine insurance all day, not a generalist agent.

I use a local agent who shopped several companies for the best rates on my boat as well as house, cars, etc.

He is literally a phone call away (he gave me his cell as well as home number). When we had a couple of claims, the adjuster was there no later than the next day.

And a lot cheaper than boatus.

I use a local agent, who has my yacht policy with Travelers currently. He lives in town, and is a fellow boater, so he's been good supporting the local boating community. He's gone to bat for folks during some storms in past years, helping expedite claims and navigate the insurance quagmire. I don't know that it was cheaper than BoatUS, but I feel more comfortable that I have someone I can go talk to in my town when needed.

I use United Marine Underwriters...Never had to use them but the rates and coverage is excellent.

NBOA-policy is up for renewal. Current provider increased price for the coming year. NBOA shopped around and found same policy for same cost as last year. Sent me the application and invoice. Great experience.

I’ve used NBOA in the past and they did a good job of scouting good policies
Not sure who I will use on the next boat

NBOA... Been with them for a long time but never a claim... Low premiums, discounts every year ..no one can touch them price wise.
