Made an offer and deposit on a 2000 340DA today with some contingencies: personal inspection, test ride, satisfactory survey & sea trial. She has 7.4's RWC (ok since this is a freshwater boat) with about 400 hours on engines. Other than some polish & wax, looked pretty good to me. I do plan to get the engines thoroughly checked out and possibly an oil analysis (is this a good thing to do with gas engines?) and will locate a surveyor who can do moisture testing on the deck. Any other suggestions anyone has would be welcomed!

Congrats, hopefully everything goes through well. Others should have insight to my opinion, but I'm not sure an oil analysis is helpful. It surely would be if you had previous ones for the engines but since you don't, you don't have anything to compare results to. It may alert you to a serious problem that is about to give way though such as water in oil or excess metal, but those should also be noticeable in a mech. survey by merc tech. I plan on sending off for analysis every other oil change to keep records and follow general conditions for my own peice of mind. Hopefully I should be making an offer on a 340 myself in about 2 weeks. SB
