Just had my pre-4th routine/preventaive maintenance done...what a pleasant surpirse. My guy replaced both impellers (which were squishy, but no tines missing) and had had a little issues with a rough running port side engine (89 Crusaders 7.4) I thought it was running a little rough, and smelled "gassy"
He found three spark plugs with cracks in the porcelin (if that's what they still use) Replaced all 8 plugs in the port side, said the dist. cap was all gunky inside so he removed it, checked it for cracks, and replaced. Checked and leaned out both carbs, lowered idle a hair, pressure checked both cooling systems, and even repaired wire that he noticed was "out of sorts" on my mid-ships bilge pump..... The only thing he told me for future reference is I don't run the boat hard enough. I do a lot of ICW cruising, and during the feeling out stage of this boat haven't run it on top much. On those big blocks it is imperative to get them on top from time to time to prevent carboning issues...... He ran both motors at 2800 for 5-10 minutes to verify that the cooling system was in order. Total bill: $550.00
I was elated, considering my engines are under the sallon, which is a pain in the ass, also considering the boat came with 5.7's and now has 7.4's stuffed in there...
Having an honest mechanic: Priceless
