just picked up this boat yesterday morning. sea ray s24 with a huge cuddy cabin so i can go out in the San Fransisco bay and do some good fishing and camping on the boat. has a 350 motor with the closed cooling system. pacific galvanized trailer with wash out. and paint and interior is in great shape, minus some oxidation. 20130806_120136_resized.jpg

thanks! yesterday was one of the happiest days of my life..... and now on to the bad part. gassed her up (300 bucks) and took her on down to the river today. set off on a little mission of checking her out. about 15 mins into it, my buddy looks back and notices a ton of steam coming from beneath the engine cover. i immediatly shut her down and drop anchor to investigate. seems like the seals on the side of the closed cooling heat exchanger tank failed and started spewing anti freeze all over the motor. and cracked a exhaust manifold. no water in the oil from what i can tell. however seems like i got some black fluid looking stuff in the bottom of the hull. gonna let it cool off a bit and go investigate. hopefully i didnt screw the motor on the maiden voyage. im gonna upload more images of the boat as well.

Whoa! Bet you didn't get a survey on that engine before buying it. Hopefully you didn't cook it and all you need to do is replace some gaskets, but I would definitely have a a marine mechanic look at the engine.

Other wise, she's a good looking boat. Welcome to the club.

Good luck with that. Sounds like you caught it pretty quickly so hopefully no real damage. Check your oil level and make sure that isn't oil in the bilge. Don't start the motor if it is an oil leak.

Oil level is still at "full" and a honey gold color so I think im okay there!! I'm thinking I just need a new heat exchanger and exhaust manifold. The black looking liquid is gone. Maybe it was just that dirty napa river gunk. No oily residue in the bilge either

Nice looking boat...good lunkheads with her. Welcome to CSR

Congrats and welcome. Good luck with the diagnosis and repair. Those are really good engines and will run forever if treated well.

"Luckheads"? Scratching my head over that one.

Burgundy, nice looking boat. Once you get these issues taken care of you'll have many years of fun on board.

Your boat looks familiar...? I had same issue with our Maiden voyage, made it one mile and had to be towed back to dock. I replaced both manifolds and risers and have run good since then. Good Luck! Love my big cabin, too!
