Hi all,

Any advice for Jones Inlet this season? I've traversed this inlet probably close to a dozen times, but I noticed this year that my GPS has not saved my tracks from previous years. Any shoaling going on? I believe in the past I hugged the eastern side of the inlet, is that still the best route? I'll be entering from the ocean on Friday morning. I see that low tide is around 6:30 am, which I believe is the best time to enter, and unfortunately that time is not going to work for us...we will probably be leaving from the city around 8am and arriving at JI around 10am.

If your running out to fire island why not go into Fire Island Inlet? Both are marked well... You should have no problem with either... Jones is wide open.. And I think they re dregged fire island inlet last summer... Someone else may know more than me as i tend to stay inside as my wife yells at me when I go out the inlet

I have not run out of Jones Inlet this year, yet, but it is well marked and should not be a problem. Watch the wind and tides. If they are opposed to each other, the seas will build in the inlet.

I went through Fire Island inlet last summer. Did not have a problem there either. I believe I took it slow just to be safe. Once inside FI, I did get a little confused on which way to go and just followed the shoreline for a while then went out to the channel.
