What a trip! So many events in such shirt time frame.

We started off Fri night from CT and headed to meet up with Greg and the rest of the Havestraw gang. Preliminary forecast fooled us again. As we left CT at 8pm there were some cells building up in NYC area. It was beautiful ride up until we got to Hell's Gate. Then the first round of t-storms with lightning hit hard. The view of lit skylines have changed to a wall of water. As Larry says, visibility is overrated. LOL This was clearly the time to put my helm electronic to work at their best. It's a lot of fun tuning the radar and finding the balance between gain and rain clutter, navigating doglegs turns and communicating with large barge on safely overtaking him.

No matter what the weather is, the city at night is just gorgeous.

Sat am, the raft of 6 had departed and headed for Zach's. Despite the grey sky the city with surrounded islands painted beautiful background pix. Not often you see big cruise ship making his way back to the NYC docks and communicating with the pilots on where to dock and who's meeting them to patrol the arrival.

We had very nice ride to JI and then interesting navigation between tons of boat traffic began. The inlet was very well marked, but shortly after JS marker we had followed the moved markers and watched how we ride on land, according to our charts. There was plenty of room for bridge boats to clear the first bridge and I confirmed by previous observations that when the 2nd bridge shows around 17'-17 1/2' (charted 14.8') I'm good to clear it with antennas down. However, I think the clearance is much more than 17', b/c based on my measurements I need about 20'. Anyway, since I was cleared (having dual mount and being slightly taller) the rest of the caravan did just fine.

As our local folks suggested, the channel was a bit tricky, but hugging the reds did the trick. As we entered the Zach’s Bay there was a spot of two where the depth drastically dropped to 3.5-4’.

Our arrival was timed well as we still had plenty of room to build the raft, right where Jonathan and Ron blocked the spot for us. Excellent team work, guys. I have no doubts that we had a biggest raft there even though Paul and his gang of 8-10 boats felt that it would be safer to stay separate.

You really don't know how packed the place gets until at about 1-2pm when the bay is already packed you see that the line of incoming boats just doesn't end.

The show was excellent as always, and it's easy to tell from the pix posted by others. I've posted only few that I had on my iphone as I forgot my big camera on the boat. So, I'll post more pix next week.

Between night parties, repositioning biggest raft, retrieving crossed anchors when the wind was at it's pick, all I can say that it was a lot of fun. It was also great to see new CSR folks joining.

I can't wait to see everyone at the Flotilla, but preferably sooner.

I really wanted to make it this year... Twin four year boys on a raft up is not too fun for me. Alex, why didn't you let me know you were staying by lady liberty overnight? I could have had you dock in my marina overnight. Next year I'm so there. Glad you guys had a great time and enjoyed the show.

Although our plans changed unexpectedly we did get to stay Sunday into Monday it was as usual great to see everyone and was bummed that I might miss them altogether. So our stay was short and sweet great time, great people. Great show.

I have to say that was a great shot (lively and happy), Greg. I'll check my pix, but I think I have a shot of you snapping X's pic.

Joe, if you can't find your audio system one day, it's on my boat......LOL....loved it.

This brings back some interesting memories.....the boat (not mine) is facing the raft with whipping winds and crossed anchors, but we have best crew to solve the puzzle.
