Currently I have 6 MX650's and 2 MX770's. I'm running a MM100s-BE unit. If I upgrade I know the Wetsounds will have a little more power. I'm looking for clarity with a little expansion too. The JL puts out 60W at 12.5v per channel and the Wetsounds only gives a spec of 100w at 14.4v, so I can assume it's around 85w at 12.5v. If I decide to add 2 more 770's I can run 4 speakers on one channel on either amp. The JL will drop to 50w a speaker and the Wetsounds around 65w. Am I really going to notice a difference in power/sound level?? Here is the other major thing I am looking at. Most people don't look at this, but in my field I work, I work with it every day. The SNR between both.
The JL has a SNR of 84db at 1 watt while the Wetsounds has 62db at 1 watt.
JL at 75 watt is at 104db while Wetsounds is at 85db at 75 watts.
I'm leaning towards the JL I think.

Im a JL fan but that wet sounds amp gets
Good reviews. I've heard the 600/6 with 4m770's and a 10IB5 sub and it was impressive. I almost went with that set up
But it was double the cost my mx stuff. 700/5 amp was about the same. Are you keeping the Kicker for the sub amp?

I'm keeping one Kicker hooked for the cabin speakers and I have a JL mono amp just for the Sub.

I don't think you can drive 4 speakers on one channel. Someone can check me on that.
Maybe a 800/8 if you want future expandability. You could drive the sub off that until you upgrade.

If it has the ability to run 6 speakers I would be able to run 12 if I had to. They would just be running at 2 ohms, that's all

You don't have enough clarity with your currently kickass setup? Have you considered over-the-ear headphones? :):):)

The viscous cycle of boat ownership. Spending money on cool stuff that doesn't really matter. I love it. :)

Most non-regulated amps drop about 20% from their 14.5V to 12.5V.

You can safely run four 4 ohm speakers on one chnl, but you would not want to. Your amp output would be the 4 ohm output, which is then divided by those 4 speakers.

Both are quality amps, so I would not get too wrapped up in their spec differences. In reality, there will not be an audible volume difference between them, although I do like the extra wattage when I can get it. The added headroom is always nice. Ive used dozens of the HTX-6 with great success.

Now, with 8 speakers, six being 6.5 and two being 7.7's, Id prefer to have the larger speakers on their own dedicated chnls. So with a 6 chnl amp, this leaves 4 chnls for the six 6.5. it also means 2 pair are going to be paired on 2 chnls.

For me, a bigger question is, where are all these speakers located. Where are they in relation to each other. If they are not in the same listening zone, we may not want them paired on amp chnls. This will then drive you to going with more amp chnls. Either a 2 chnl or small 4 chnl bridged, or an 8 chnl.

If it does look like a 6 chnl configuration is the right setup AND the 7.7's will be on their own chnls, id consider the Wet Sounds Syn-DX6. It will give you more wattage to those 7.7's. It will deliver 125W rms to each of your 6.5" at 4 ohm, and 100W to them @ 2 ohm. More wattage all the way around, for a little more investment.

Oh...the choices...decisions decisions. lol

Our new boat has no stereo and looking at spending some money on a nice one for the first time. I see both WetSounds and Jl highly recommend at the boat show last night. I want the led lights that sync as well. What manufacturer would you recommend if you were at a clean slate?

Can't go wrong with either one. If you just cruise and don't do water sports or need to rock the sandbar, I think the JL has a mellower sound. Wet sounds are sharp and bright. I prefer JL for my taste. Fusion head unit is probably best for a large boat. Lots of
Options to customize zones and integrate electronics. Sound is very subjective. I would give a listen to both to see what matches your taste.

The new apollo series is the latest and greatest. It does have some mixed reviews
though. Come up with a plan on what you want from your system and then compare capabilities.

Wet Sounds and Kicker RGB LEDs. These give you the option to have single color red, blue or green, or multi-color effect with an optional RGB controller. The LEDs come on their in-boats speakers. Kicker includes them on their tower speakers and Wet Sounds offers optional LED rings to outfit their tower speakers. LEDs for the woofers is also an option from both Kicker and Wet Sounds.

Kicker offers a single speaker line with LEDs. Wet Sounds offers a mid-level in-boat and a premium in-boat line with the RGB

Kicker offers a basic RGB controller. Wet Sounds offers a single zone music controller, a 4-zone music controller as well as a means to interface the RGB LEDs so they can be controlled through their MC-1 media center.

Underwater RGB LEDs can also be synced to the in-boats, depending on the underwater LEDs

I think JL is still offering only blue LED on their in-boats and M series 10" woofer.

Thanks for your input. I don't know what I'm going to do. I like the Idea of all JL, but like the extra wattage. Both amps are in my price range. I can even get a smokin deal on the JL if I want it. (2) 770's and (2) 650's are in the arch. The other (2) 650's..one near the helm and the other near the back. I may add 2 more 770's in the future. Damn the boat was a mess. LOL

I talked to the folks at JL Audio. They are coming out with rgb lights next month! Perfect timing!

JL has a new line of speakers out - installed them the other day, fantastic. Went with M6-660, 3 pair, M6-770, M6-880 and the M12IB and a M10IB powered by 2 MHD 900/5 ‘s and a Fusion Apollo 770.
The JL Head unit had better line out voltage than the Fusion but just didnt have the functionality and I looked at wetsounds but couldn’t find anything that even came close to this JL equip.

Nice choices. The M series is by far the way to go... putting 2 sets of 880's a set of 770 and to M12IB's in our 48 sundancer
