We managed to get out this past weekend. Temps were in the high 30's, but nice and toasty on the boat. The sun was promised, but that was a lie for most of the day. First time out in 3 months ...itch scratched ..lightly.

Lion's Gate Bridge which is the entrance to Port of Vancouver. The port is behind us.

Burrard Bridge, edge of downtown Vancouver to the left.

Burrard Bridge looking the other way out toward English Bay ...snow capped Coastal Mountains in the distance. The trees on the right are Stanley Park which is the main park in Vancouver, and adjacent to downtown. Some of the trees are 100's of years old, and stand over 25 stories tall. It's about 1.5x the size of NYC's Central Park

Coming back into the marina in North Vancouver. Usually there are 7000ft mountains there just behind the buildings but the clouds were low that day and obscured.

I actually like the off seasons as there is less traffic and stress while out boating. Unfortunately we have to put ours to sleep for a few months. Nice to be able to boat vicariously through you and the familiar view from your helm ;)

Its time for winter springs in your neck of the coast.. brings memories of many a day in Howe sound

Vancouver is one of my favorite cities to visit. Nice waters to boat on, lots of marinas, good food, great places to do a walking tour.

I see the burgee flying. Are you members of a yacht club?

That's just my Canadian Power and Sail Squadron burgee. We aren't members of a YC ...yet, although we have been flirting with the idea of joining one. Royal Vancouver YC is the best here, but they want $22k to join. That's a tough pill to swallow but would likely pay for itself in the long run. We're getting there.

Unfortunately the fishing in Howe Sound isn't what it used to be. I've never gotten so much as a nibble and fishing anywhere around Vancouver these days is hit or miss (usually more miss). You have to go up to the Sunshine Coast or Gulf Islands to really improve your chances.

$22K? HOLY TOLEDO.  :eek:I thought our club was a bit steep with $1K initiation fee and $1K annual dues. I will say that RVYC has some beautiful facilities but they're pretty proud of them.

Yup it’s nuts. But the amenities and benefits are endless. Burrard Yacht Club which is smaller and based right next to our marina, is $11k. Initiation goes up quite a bit once you’re past 40. I think for a 20 year old joining Royal Van, it’s something like $5k. But then again I don’t know many 20yo’s who have $5k to join a yacht club ..much less own a boat.

Nice pictures. Living in Michigan, we only boat is fair weather (above 50 deg. F). I see it was in the thirties for your trip. Do you have a genny and a cockpit heater while you're cruising? Cool area, do you ever get the chance to swim around there in the summer?

Hey thanks. We did have he genny running with a heater in the cockpit. I didn’t even need a jacket in here. You wouldn’t want to swim around Vancouver as the water averages around 50 degrees, but 100miles north of here there is warm water that we swim in. It’s called Desolation Sound. Reason the water is warm in the summer is it’s an area directly behind Vancouver Island and that’s where the tides north and south of the island, converge. So the water isn’t constantly replaced with cold pacific water every tidal cycle ..like around Vancouver. Here’s some pics from the summer up there:

Can’t wait to escape winter. Once I get enough saved to ensure a decent retirement it’s florida from At least Jan to April and back up here for our fantastic summer and fall. Likely look for a canal home on the SWF coast and pick up a 24 to 26 ft CC for playing around with.

I will be on my boat this Friday!! Finally, after buying the boat in November and have it moved from Lake Altoona to the Canvas Shop for a bunch of work and finally on the road to Charleston, WV later tomorrow with a Friday delivery!

I just came in from taking the dog out. Its 3 degrees. They dont make a heater big enough to get me on the water today.

thanks for sharing

One of our better bargains is the Spring Lake Yacht Club which costs just $250 for a new member. The club has reciprocity with a number of fine clubs around the Midwest (and maybe beyond). Claim to fame is many national champion sailors in various classes. Sorry for the off topic. Carry on.

upload_2019-2-2_19-10-35.jpeg We spent a few hours on the boat this morning. Didn’t get out of the slip though, the harbor entrance was frozen over pretty good.
