Jacksonville Florida

4th...Rodger on the dock is the man. One late afternoon he and I were chatting by the boat when from down the dock came Carolina Kennedy and as she walked by she offered us a beer from her boat as it was quitting time.....

Places like Fernandina Harbor City dock are what still making running up and down the coast cool to me. Little historic town that you may not even know existed but then you arrive to easy docking, super nice people, extremely short walk to fried chicken and shrimp & grits and an evening of relaxing atmosphere in quaint little village. I find that I pass by the main stay marinas these days and seek out places like Fernandina. I run the big pond as much as possible so this inlet is a piece of cake but coming and going via the ICW certainly requires you know tides but that story has been told here on many threads.

I can go all the way up the coast with places like that and one day may just put all that in print. Finding me is not looking at the fancy marinas, I will be in places like Fernandina Fl or Georgetown SC at Hazzard Marine, Belhaven Marina NC (mine and FW's fav, marina made for two old salts), COINJOCK prime rib, 'nough said there....all the way to Cape May and South Jersey Marina and over to Huntington NY or Norwalk CT, through the Cape Cod Canal and on north...and that is without even mentioning the Chesapeake and places like where Tim and the Converse are located on the Sassafras or the two spots on the C&D Canal.

getting carried away again......have been up and down so many times I want to do it in reverse one day just for something different but believe it or not, I still find new places and new stories that make what we do in these cool-a__ boats so much fun it causes serenity for the soul.

See ya on the dock in Fernandina some morning with cup of joe in our hands watching the sun come up out of the ocean right before our eyes.............life is beautiful Billy Ray !

Have a nice Sea Ray day guys and you too Brenda.

post script...would not forget the lake crown either. it does not get any better than hanging with Mrs. Nix and her cantankerous husband (love that guy) on Lake Lanier

Thank you kind Sir, and you have a really good day too Cap'n:)

If you're interested in going a bit further south, St. Augustine is a beautiful city with a great municipal dock that you can walk off the dock and right into the town.

Just realized Capt. Rusty I should also have said that if you are ever near Bird Key Yacht Club in SRQ, "kicking your heels" (not likely perhaps), but if ever, don't forget to give us a call. The Club does a descent "pie and a pint":)

Arrrr to the pint my dear! Brenda, love to take you up some day soon...

Mvoellinger...you are so right in St. Augustine.. I prefer the city marina as it is right down town and like you said, a short walk from the boat. FW and I tied up there last summer one night and enjoyed the heck out of it. We Floridians take a city like Augustine for granted just cause it's another inlet on the coast but talk history, it is the oldest city in the entire US, with a fort guarding the inlet opening that has been there before your great-great-great-grandaddy was even born....still there today. Was docked there one evening in the fall a couple years ago, when they turned on all the Christmas lights.....super cool!

Amen! A beautiful city. I live in Julington Creek area, so Im closer by drive to st augustine than jax beaches, and love a good motorcycle ride down there. If you're ever looking for a free meal and some drinks let me know, I'd love to buy to hear your stories.

How can you say no to this? Flagler college right there, great restaurants and bars and like Capt Rusty said - a fort watching over you and the best "nights of lights" for xmas.

funny you guys brought up St Augustine, as that is our destination. middle of next month we're traveling the few hours cruise to stay at the Municipal dock for a few nights. We're towing the jet ski to explore and go to the beach. Agreed, we love At. Augustine.
We're going to leave out of St Simons Island late one afternoon and only going to make it to Jax. Usually we dock near Billy's Boathouse Grill at Jax Beach on the ICW, but looking for someplace different to tie up and have dinner (and maybe even some entertainment) not too far off the ICW.
Capt Rusty, hope to run into you sometime! Been boating now a few year, and gone through a few Sea Rays and we're hooked. We absolutely love our Venture, perfect boat for us now. will dream of the 590 fly once we retire!

Nipper's is a pretty cool place also. The Bloody Mary Bar is the best!

Looking forward to seeing you on the dock as well boss. This past week I was on one 650FLY to Lauderdale, and another one to Charleston SC and then finally yet another one to Fernandina this past Saturday..... 3 650FLY's delivered in one week...we are rolling !!!

hope to see ya !

Richie,

Man you move fast, congrats on the 370.

You probably already know this, but many/most Jet Skis you can flood the engine if you do not block off the cooling water line from the impeller to the engine. I helped clear two last weekend when people showed up at the sandbar and their ski would not turn over.

BTW, when are you going to be St. Aguaistine? Also, June 13 is SeaRay/Marine Maxx Aquapalooza at Ponce Inlet. http://www.floridabywater.com/event/event/62-aquapalooza-disappearing-island

Have a great trip
