Looking For Next One
Real Estate still has not picked up in the North GA mountains and can't seem to find any kind of work in the area. With that said I may have to commute to Jacksonville, FL for work.

Any info on the area would be appreciated. I'm thinking I may move my RV down for a while until I can get a better handle on the area.

Still looking for work in the North GA/Atlanta area also so if you know of any please let me know.

Sorry to hear that things have not picked up. I was born, raised and lived in Jax for 45 years and people either love it or hate it. Being a water rat I loved it. The St Johns River, Intercoastal and Ocean are all easily reachable and there are a lot of day trips to be made either north to Fernandina or south to St Augustine. I would be happy to answer any questions you may have. I am not sure the real estate business is any better there but the water access sure is.
Good Luck- If you want pm me with a number and we can talk. Again Good Luck

I currently live in Jax, but work from home and have only lived here 3 years and also travel half the time, so Im not sure how much I can tell you. But Id be happy to answer any questions, or grab a beer sometime.

Thanks guys. I know somebody would have info on the area. I've only been to Downtown Jacksonville once and that was via the water. Did a trip down the ICW and the St Johns river a couple years back.
Cary I'm sure I'll be contacting you if this pans out. I will not be in the real estate field, I'm going to be in the shipping/container field. Will be working out of the docks and one of the depots on the river.

I'm looking for a nice RV park in a good area that I can leave my RV in for about 6 months or until I can find something.

From everything I've read Jacksonville is a boaters paradise. Can you boat year round there? What is the winter weather like?

Thanks again,
Chuck

Chuck,

Sorry to hear that...here's to things picking up soon!!!

Wesley

Thanks Wesley,
I wish it would but, I'm thinking it is going to be 4+- years until this area recovers. I've never seen any thing like it and it does not seem to be improving. When I finally get the buyers to make an offer it becomes a nightmare to get them closed between buyers remorse and getting a loan through:huh:

Check the tax codes. Years ago the revenue earned in FL was not subject to GA state taxes if you were a GA resident. When I left JAX (Navy) GA was trying desparately to get that changed. FL used to have no state tax, but the taxes on everything else is high. Boat insurance in FL is very high and some companies will not insure boats in FL anymore. If I wanted to take Saint Max to FL, I have to get a special rider on the policy for the time I am going to be in FL. The rider is damn near as expenive as the policy.

David,

Thanks for the heads up. Not sure how much boating I'm going to get to do. Jax is about an 8 hour commute for me. Does not really make since to fly since it takes 4+ hours just to clear the Atlanta airport and get home from it. I'll have to check and see about a rider for MS Judy if/when I haul her down there. I would really like to run the whole St Johns River some day. The "no state income tax" is one plus about Jacksonville, but like you said they make it up other way(Grin)

Any body know anything about

Riverfront RV Park
8364 Heckscher Dr., Jacksonville, FL 32226

I went by it via the ICW when we did the trip years ago, but don't remember it?

I can answer one question you asked about the Jax area, yes you can boat all year round as a rule, I say it that way due to the unusual cold that was down here this past winter. You could use your enclosure on the cool days.

... You could use your enclosure on the cool days.

Now why did I not think about... Everybody said I was turning her into a cruiser so I guess I could just stay on MS Judy. Now where am I going to put the AC:lol::smt043:lol:
Thanks Nolan you just saved me a bunch of money who needs a RV site.

You gonna have to get one of those portable generators to run the a/c so you can anchor out in a cove somewhere and not have to pay dock fees.

Nolan,

He has shorepower. I'm not sure, but I believe Chuck has a Honda genny. So, all he would need is a RV style a/c unit. Then he would simply cut a hole in the bimini using the supplied template and he'd have all the comforts of home.

I am kidding, but that would make an interesting upgrade to a canbote. In fact, having dual overhead units would really be nice.

Chuck, I am certain all will work out for you and your family.

Thanks Charley.. Now if I went with a dual system I would have to get a big generator.:thumbsup:

I have another thought, you will be working at the ports, right, just tie up to the docks there and use their shorepower.

I like your thinking Nolan, I just have to find a real big boarding ladder.

Anybody think they could drive by that RV park for me? Shoot a couple pictures. Sometimes the website pictures don't show the whole truth(Grin)

Chuck, I just sent an email to a fellow I know in Jax, included you in the email so if he replies you will get it also, hope he knows something that will help.

You are the man Nolan!!! Thanks for all your help.
