If anyone can help or has guidance on these two mechanical issues, I would really appreciate. I have a 1988 Sea Ray Sorrento, 23 foot, 260 Mercruiser, 5.7 liter, Alpha. Here's my situation:
1. The trim knob on the throttle works only when I push the down position and the "trailer" button works. But when I flip the trim knob up, there is no reaction, no sound, like a dead battery. The mechanic said the trim motor and pump are working and he thinks the issue could be electrical. Would the proper part to replace be the trim switch? Or could thes symptoms be other issues that the electrician should troubleshoot?
2. Shifter/Throttle -- The shifter wouldn't lock in the upright position and is difficult to easily move back and forth-- it's has a feeling like there's sludge in there, but that's not the case of course. Years back, I replaced the cable that goes to the shifter/throttle but at that time, the shifter would lock in the upright position. Would a new cable fix the scenario -- where the throttle moves easily and locks in the upright position? Or, is there something else going with the shifter creating the problem?
