Hi everyone, as my username suggests I am new to SeaRay and hoping to learn much from this forum. I am currently looking at used express cruisers, and I notice that the vinyl glass is aged on must used boats. Occassionally I sail on a friends sailboat, and he has canvas covers that match his t-top that snap over the vinyl windows, and his windows look brand new after 8+ years. Does anyone make snap-on (actually a quarter-turn button) covers for SeaRay windows?

First off welcome to the board.

I am not aware of any Isenglass Covers. But several people have had full canvas sections made up by canvas shops that they use for mooring rather than use the pieces with Isenglass. You might try doing a search on "Isenglass" also as we have had several good topics come up on the subject that you will find informative.

Re: Isinglass covers?

Any canvas shop can make you a cover.

I have a cover similar to your description. The protection afforded the isinglass is well worth it. My isinglass is nearly perfect after 3+ years in the Florida sun. My previous boats glass was stiff and hazy after only 2 years exposure. I have attached an image showing the canvas.

I usually store the vinyl panels and use a cockpit cover instead. Most of the time we don't really need the vinyl panels. It's easier to use the cockpit cover. That and having a whole other set of covers would require still more storage space.

But if you wanted such covers I'd think any local canvas shop would be able to make them for you, and attach the appropriate fasteners to your existing panels.

Depending on the boat deal yuo will be working, you might be able to get new canvas out of the deal. Then you need to connect with a good canvas shop and they can make the new canvas and isenglass to your specs

Here in Southern California I found that the stock Isenglass lasted at most one season, and by two seasons it was badly discolored. I ditched the forward Isenglass on Bounty for Barrett Enclosure, and the rear panel is Strataglass. I have snap-on canvas covers for them when Bounty is docked. After 5 years my Barrett and Strataglass still looks brand-new.
