So I have been having issues with my starboard engine stalling after idling for an extended time, so I was going to change the IACs on both engines. Got the new ones (which suck, another story) and found that one of the existing ones was missing part of the plunger, the part with the spring. Are there some like that? Looking at both of them, they are a bit different, no part number on one. I checked the hoses and that piece isn't in the hose. So it either was never there, someone took it out or it got sucked into the engine somewhere. The ones I got off of Amazon suck. One makes the.engine idle speed all over the place and the other has the incorrect increased idle speed. 20230726_153115.jpg

Sometimes automotive works and sometimes it doesn't.

Amazon Chinese def. no go.

Are you saying that these with the springs are auto not marine? I think I just read that on some of the reviews on amazon also.

Spring or not they should all operate the same. I don't think the Merc part has a spring. A fairly simple unit that the computer controls by either opening or closing the plunger to adjust the air flow into the intake at or near idle.

The one on the left in your pic is what I saw when ordering the Merc part. I took one off of an MPI and it looked like the one on the right.

Is there really a difference between the $30 one on Amazon vs the $200 Mercruiser part? I'm not sure. My boat ran the same with both. If your IAC is having issues, it could be mechanical not electrical. If it's carbon'd up and sticking, you can take it off and spray inside with carb cleaner (or TB cleaner) where the plunger goes, work it back and forth and that can free it up and keep it from sticking.
