I am contemplating new JL audio speakers (6.5"). Other than a little size difference does the m650 sound a lot better than the mx650. I know the tweeter is 1" vs. 3/4. I am driving them with an Alpine 300 watt amp using 2 channels for the speaker and 2 for the Sub. I know a lot of people rave about these speakers. I have polk audio db651's now. thanks, any other suggestions welcome

I dont think it makes much of a difference. High frequency is directional and usually gets lost quickly outside, ***uming you are mounting them there. I think the MX are rated to handle a little higher continuous power. I have the MX (6) and 2 10" JL Subs in the cockpit. I am running the subs at 2 ohms and 4 of the 6 coax are running 2 ohm as well. About 2000 watts total, gets the party started and usally ends it too (wife or the cops). Have you bought them yet? They are great speakers, I had MB Quart prior. They were ok but not like the JL. I owned some stereo shops in a previous life and its a residual habit, I mean hobby.

No, I didn't buy them yet. I have all my christmas money set aside like a school kid and doing my research. your system must really rock. I just have the 2 polks out there now and a small bazooka sub (selling both) and it is pretty loud. A fellow boater was saying the alpine marine type R were good as well but it doesn't sound (no pun intended) like you can wrong with the JL's. they are located in the cockpit near the aft facing seat with the bazooka under the aft seat. Where did you find the best price?
thanks for the feedback, I really don't want to add more holes in the boat and my arch is not real deep. Rob
