Ipod on Clarions XMD3-RET

hey W2F...where did you get the Ipod cable ?...I need one...also thanks for info on the signal differences....Dave.

I was wondering if there was any way I could play 78RPM records thru my Clarion Unit? :smt021  :smt100

Is there a wire thingy to connect my old 8 tracks?

with a boat like yours I think you can afford to upgrade to a cassette deck with the autoreverse feature!

so you guys have gps/plotters that have tubes instead of transistors?

I plan to connect the ipod to our clarion unit this season, Im not sure what the model is but its the OEM stuff for the premium cockpit audio, I know it has a AUX input. If all goes well I would like to mount an ipod dock or at least get the cables up to the helm. Now in theory I hope i can wire it so i can hook into the aux input of the clarion and also use one fo the accessory circuits or some other source so the ipod will charge from the helm too. Anyone have experience with pulling the unit out so can get to the aux inputs? does this project sound like a do it yourselfer? any input is greatly appreciated

My kids will love being able to plug in there IPODs to the XMD3. What voltage is required for the IPOD connection so that the IPOD will charge when using the bottom connector like you show?

I am adding a powered Bazooka to my XMD3. Do you know which of the RCA connectors I should use? I know the red ones are inputs but I do not know which white one to use. Of course I did not get a manual with the boat so I have email at Clarion that is waiting for a response. At this time the DIN connector is what Sea Ray used to wire up the 6 speakers in my boat. A couple of sites have suggested using the rear speakers with a cross over as this works better to fire the sub. I hope this is not too far off subject.

Assuming your speakers are wired through the harness it should be the black wires with the RCA receiver ends. My sub is powered so I didn't add an amplifier.

I don't have it hooked up on the boat yet (in the shop only) but I was just going to connect the IPOD to the power going to the radio. The directions that came with the cable said to hook to 12v power supply. It shouldn't be drawing any significant power. My sub is on its own power line.

I have pdf files for the xmd3 but could not find a wiring diagram. from what I understand it is the same as the CDM4 or the M455 and I was able to find a wiring diagram for the M455. I will PM you that. I assume you can open that attachment that way.

Thanks W2F. I was sure the IPOD does not draw any current and now my voltage question has been answered. The sub is powered so that will be a straight run to the battery switch. When the battery switch is off so is the amp and the chance of draining the battery.

sb,
below is the diagram of the pin configuration for XMD1. Also look at the picture of the cable just below of a 13 pin din male plug. It would be cheaper and probably easier to use this cable rather than the kenwood plug. remember you have to connect pin 5 & 9 in order to switch to aux mode.

XMD3 Access question

I get how to connect the Ipod once I get access to the back of the XMD3, but what exactly is the best way to access the HU on a 280sd?

There's a cd rack/panel below the panel that holds the XMD3 (w/ the changer next to it), which is below the AC/DC panel.

I cant tell what kind of tool I need to remove the panel (assuming I need to). The corners have caps on the where the screws are. when I took the caps off there was gunk (for lack of a better way to describe it) in there and I couldn't tell what I need. If I can get the CD rack out below ,the aux input should be easy to access I assume.

Until Clarion comes up with a better interface I plan to hard wire into the aux input from the 3.5mm headphone jack. I then plan to attach an RF remote (to the Ipod itself)which I'll carry in my pocket. if I can Pause, skip, and adjust volume that's all I need remotely.

on the front faceplate there is a silver plastic cap on each side of the raido. They easily pop off to expose the screws holding the radio. You may be able to get the radio out this way if they havent attached a support to the back

thanks Wish2fish that worked great. I drilled a hole from the cd rack up (popping out below the HU) and dropped the cord down for easy Ipod attachment. :smt038

Can someone help me with this? So what is the best solution? I have the XMD3 in a 2005 300 DA I just purchased. I'm not the most handiest of guys. Is this something I can handle myself changing?

Thanks for the help. i know this is an old thread.

Thanks for the quick response. Just add the ipod connector if I can

Clarion told me I need something called a EA1251 but I thought I read someplace that didn't work??

I looked it up on Amazon. Not sure that is the right solution.

Thanks for any help you can provide.
