There has been some discussion here about the iPhone Navionics navigation/gps application. While browsing the iPhone Application site I see there are actually quite a few programs that look very nice.

Does anyone have any experience (pros/cons) on which application works best?

I like iNavX the best so far.

I have questions too as to carry me over this year I may breakdown and get one.. I have tried the lite version of the Navionics and the chart is nice but..

There is no course up mode yet, does iNavX have that? I like that iNavX uses the NOAA charts and it gets them itself.

I find from the demo that the Navionics screen is hard to read depth wise and data as the font shrinks and if you have the phone in a holder on the dash somewhere I doubt I will be able to see it to be helpfull.. The depth contour options help on this a bit...

There is one other and I forget the name now that uses the Raster charts and its undercutting all the others at $39.99 per region but I only have the reviews to go on and it seems that there are some shortcomings on that one for me. The aids to navigation are black or white? The depth is in meters. I don't want a quiz when I am looking at the software...

Turtle just saw you video...D'OH on the home page... Does iNavX do Course up and while you are under way does it display any data, speed, course, distant to next waypoint???

Just wondering..

Well dip me in axle grease and call me slick.... I just wandered over to the iNavX forums and see the iNavX 2.0 will support navionics charts. Of course I'll have to buy them I am betting on the $49 price point for that.. In the mean time NOAA will get me by...

Thanks..

No iNavX does not do course up. In the instruments it will display speed. If you are transmitting NMEA wifi data, it will display about 100 additional things.

It will also display bearing to waypoint, distance to waypoint. One thing they've added which is really cool is when you're on a map, there's a little + and - at the top. you tap one of those and it will open either a more detailed closer map, or a less detailed bigger picture map. This is in addition to being able to pinch zoom on a map for more detail. If you want to get a quick distance between two things, double tap on the location and drag. It will give you the bearing and distance.

You get all of the NOAA charts for free, so you don't have to pay for regions.

Navionics can be pretty cool but it's really hard for me to read the maps. too much junk crammed into that little screen.

I haven't tried the $39 app yet.

I'm going to do a more indepth review of the app, just waiting for the season to begin.

I just got an iPhone and am looking at all of the chart programs. I see that InavX and Navionics are 49.99 but FlyToMap us rivers is 9.99. Has anyone used this program? We have some really shallow water in our area that we would like to be able to navigate. Right now we just go really slow using the depth sounder but to be able to see the whole picture would be a big help. I don't mind paying the 49.99 but if I can get the same thing for 9.99 I will.

Also has anyone used Chris Parsons Anchor Alarm. For 9.99 it looks like a great program but I wanted to hear from some people on here who have used it.

Thanks
