I just ordered an IPAD and they say it is going to take 3 weeks to get it! I want it now! How long has anyone else had to wait. I don't have time to go to an Apple store, plus I hear they don't have any. Any thoughts???

They are in very short supply. Your only bet is to go to the apple store if you don't want to wait. They have been getting a few in every other day. So call ahead. Or wait for them to ship you one.

It took me two weeks going to the apple store to get the camera kit. You basically have to scope out the neighborhood waiting for the truck, then run in, tell a sales person that the truck is here and if they could run, grab one, scan it into the system and bring it to you. Otherwise it'll be gone in 5 min.

Order from Apple on-line. It'll take a bit, but it's a sure bet. Go ahead and order all the other crap that goes with it while you are doing it. The little case/cover is quite handy.

Tomorrow is the Canadian launch of the iPad. Ordered mine a couple of weeks ago and expect to receive tomorrow (plus I ordered the doo-dads that I thought I'd be looking for...camera kit, binder). According to UPS it is currently enroute from Anchorage, Alaska - it's first stop after leaving Shenzhen, China.
I guess I had to do my little part to push Apple's market cap over the top...

One good thing about smaller market cities (like Buffalo) is that things don't sell out so fast. I got mine at the Apple store here a week after launch with only a five minute wait.

Still no camera kit though... How could they launch it without an SD-card reader built in?

I agree, it should have had a built in SD reader. why there is a shortage of the camera kit boggles my mind. it's 2 pieces of plastic. There's a billion docks, stop making those stupid docks and make more camera kits.

iPad question. Turtle what case were you using on your trip home. I though I saw the iPad at your helm at one point in a video. Also is navimatics the only chart software for the iPad right now? Any word on Navionics getting to the iPad?
I am interested in the darn thing and the only real benefit I see from it is charts... Of course wi-fi in the marina too!
PS thanks Turtle for the blog and videos. I am sure it was a lot of extra work to do all that and navigate 1000's of miles too!

I bought the apple case, it's a pretty good case. I would like to get the RAM mount for the helm.
All 3 of the big chart apps are on the ipad now.
don't forget weather, tides, Radio, log book, PDF manuals, email, magazines, books, news, google for stores and places to eat or visit on trips. we really found it very useful. I also had all of the notice to mariners as they were made available. Every week some new app comes out that I find useful on the boat. The battery life blows away laptops too. I sent emails to maptech to make their cruise books available for the ipad. that would be great.
Another cool app that just came out for the ipad is ReelDirector. You can edit HD video from your cameras SD card. It's like a mini imovie app. pretty cool.

Mine just came via FedEx this afternoon. Today is the day of the Canadian launch. In fact I'm entering this from the iPad right now! I love the wireless keypad!

Turtle you are killing me! I never thought for a million years I would desire a darn iPad, but after having the iPhone and using the charts app on our boat it makes a lot of sense...especially on the boat... Curse you apple!!! I also am holding out for the June iPhone release as I am primed to upgrade my 3G...

Another cool thing, if you have the camera kit, you can plug the iPhone in and it'll grab the pics and video from your camera roll and put them on your iPad.
