iPad for Navigation

Ok thanks!
I looked and most info in my area is 2010/2011. Still very old data.
Sure.... It is old data when you consider NOAA just updated the charts less than a month ago. It seems these chart companies sell info annually like you're using it for a car navigation system.

That doesn't work for me.

I'm going to stick with iNavx for my primary with the NOAA charts until I figure this out.

No wonder why they hit you with the disclaimer as you enter the app. The data is old and not kept up if navigation issues change the chart. Damn, I paid good money thinking they kept up with the NOAA changes.

I have iNavx but haven't been able to use simply because of the look and feel.
It is not very user friendly, or maybe I'm doing something wrong.
BTW - how do you have your iPad mounted?

I will take pictures of my setup this weekend, but here's a shot of the Seasucker mount when I first received it:

I don't think iNavx is the most intuitive app. I think the best thing I've learned about using it is the triangle filter in the upper right corner of the chart listing. It only lists the charts that intersect with your position. It's very helpful to me to see the list and bring up the chart that's under the boat. Then going between them is pretty easy.

I think the compass and data info is position well and helpful. I also like the AIS info.

The UI could be better, but the charts are free and if I hit the little "i" in the lower right corner I can update the chart at anytime. I do this before every trip and usually it updates a newer chart. They seem to be updated in my area fairly regularly.

I have the same Ipad case as you but I haven't setup a mount for it. Still trying to figure out how I want to layout the helm.

I will play with it some and see how I like it.
I see both iNavx and Garmin Blue Chart work across my devices (iPad and iPhone) while Navionics requires separate purchases.
Redundancy is key, so I've got one more piece of software to learn!

If you're looking for a mount for your iPad with Nuud case, I'd give the Seasucker some consideration. My iPad is rock solid even in choppy waters.

I think you should. The NOAA charts are probably the most current with changes.

I have the Garmin, iNavx, and Navtronics apps... I believe in educating myself and redundancy. I'll put two tablets at the helm.

Thanks for the info on the Seasucker. It's on the short list to review with the Ram mounts.

Where did you get that sea sucker mount for the iPad Dooley?

Right here:
www.seasucker.com

I called and spoke with Gregg. Told him what setup I had (iPad w/ Retina display + Lifeproof Nuud case) and he selected the proper cradle that would fit (and it does!).
Also, I chose the RAM mount vs the Flexarm because I didn't think the flexarm would withstand the bounciness (real word?) of choppy waters. Gregg seemed to agree with me.
I'm 110% satisfied with both the product and their customer service.

I have the flex arm and it holds up great.... Great product...

Dooley, I just received a message from Seasucker stating that the Lifeproof case does not fit in the Ram bracket and can be mounted only to the Naked Flex Mount. Could you please reconfirm that you purchased the Ram bracket and does fit to the Lifeproof case? Any photo of your set up would be very appreciated...

The only pictures I have are on my post above (#42).

Gregg put together my package, which included the short Ram arm and the cradle with adjustable "prongs".
I can't find my sales receipt, but try calling Gregg and ask him to quote what he sold me. The order is under Eldorado Classics
