Hi all,
Wondering if you all can talk some sense into me. So I purchased a Magnum Energy, pure sinwave inverter thinking I can use it versus a generator. Currently the boat I have, a 2012 , 310 sundancer doesn't have the generator. Thought is, if I'm out and about it will power the microwave and TV, if needed. But after reading the install manual and realizing it can't go in the engine compartment, and questioning if microwave will ever be needed for anything when not on shore power I'm not sure if the install will be worth it. I seem to be stuck with what do. I paid like 2.5k for the kit, comes with controller and shunt. Just need the marine cables and few things for install, but will have to find a location in the galley to install the inverter. Can't return the darn thing as it sat in the garage for 9 months.

That makes for expensive microwave if that's all you use it for. I'd sell it for what I could get and call it an expensive lesson. You can then use the remaining proceeds to increase your battery capacity and to buy a tv that can run on 12v DC. The only thing left would be the water heater. You can rig up a solar shower to help fill that gap.

That’s a very nice inverter. There are some other nice features with that inverter. Electronics, microwave on the hook even for a minute, just quiet no smell power.

I would think you can find a place to put it in the aft cabin. If nothing else eBay it, and but a smaller easier to hide version.

Inverters are desirable.

Did a lot of research on inverters and that model stood out from the rest. Was thinking what you said the pure sine inverter will keep the electronics in top shape, plus with the added feature of a battery charger when on shore power.....man this is not easy.

If you decide to use the inverter, you might need to consider expanding the capacity of your house battery bank also. Maybe you already have factored that in, but they inverter can be a big draw on your batt's depending on what a/c devices you're trying to run with it.

I figured I run 4 blue top batteries for inverter and separate from house batteries, figured the weight of batteries along with the inverter can't be more than a generator or at least equal to?

I used a 1000 watt version on a 24 ft. Was very nice. I had it up on the front wall of the aft cabin. Used it to make blender drinks!

It saw a lot of action.

we have that unit on our 2001 410 and love it. it drives 4 L-16 Trojan Batteries positioned between the engines near the back. the pure sinwave inverter is placed in the trunk. actually on the port side there's a wall so on the other side of that wall. your 320 probably has space there too. the remote is in the cabin.
we use it to make coffee, watch TV, microwave only a few seconds it sucks hard. hair dryer, it sucks hard too. but mostly for the electric blanket at night on the hook. my wife loves that!
in the morning we fire up the genny and charge the batteries back up in about an hour while heating up the hot water tank for our morning shower.

Excellent! Thanks. I'll probably look to install end of season and have it ready for next year....

My $.02. Don't waste your money on the optima blue top batteries. They only have about 75% of the deep-cycle capacity of a square battery and usually cost a lot more. AGM is the way to go for maintenance free.

Thank you. Didn't know that

Except that blue tops are AGM batteries.... just spiral cell, not flat plate, which explains the lower capacity- less lead in a swiss roll than a layer cake so to speak....

Having said that, the more recent blue tops just don’t seem to have the service life that the earlier ones did...

Good to know...thanks

I thought there was a limitation on how far away your batteries can be from your invertor ? In my case, it's 3' away.

Indeed. I wasn't going to skimp on wiring size....and I was looking at keeping it relatively all close together.
