Hi all,
I normally wouldn't bore everyone with an into, but this one has a bit of a twist...
In 1988 my dad bought a 1986 Sea Ray Cuddy w/Merc 260. He used it for about 5 years then work reeled him back in and the boat was used less and less. He asked the marine dealer one day if he should have a boat with twins, and his reply was "You shouldn't even have a boat at all! For what it costs you, you could charter a boat and crew a few times a year."
(I graduated high school in '87 and had other interests at the time. Supervision wasn't high on the list back then so the family shore house wasn't the place for me..)
He finally traded the boat back to the dealer in lieu of paying for a new oil pan and other repairs...
The dealer loved that boat - he had it at least 15 years. Problem was, no one was interested in a boat that old - even though it was in great shape and spent most if its life out of the water on the showroom floor.
(It just so happens that the dealer decided to put the boat back in the water this season to use himself.)
My kids are teenagers now and want to spend more time down the shore. We heard that he had the boat back in the water and asked if we could borrow it for the weekend. He said sure. The next week we bought it back!
One the plus side, we saved 15 years of summer & winter storage. (On the other hand, he would have been better off just giving us the boat for free 15 years ago!)
