I just had the intermittent beeping on my Sundancer 260 7.4 Bravo III today when I got up on plane. I cut it back immediately and it stopped. The water temp gauge fluctuated from the normal 170 down to 100 and back even when going slow (1200 rpm).

I have had the boat 5 years with never a problem. I have never changed the impeller? Where is it?

tks

You're going to learn very soon where your impeller is. I think, on the 7.4s, it is on top of the engine toward the front. I changed my own when I had a 7.4. You need the impeller kit, a hose tool (a hooked pick) to pull the hose off and a short-handled ratchet wrench.

Great thanks! Any idea why the temperature gauge would register low temperatures (fluctuating from 100 to 170) rather than show higher than normal temps? Seems to me that less water flow would result in higher temps.

One of my engines (Bravo 3's) was running cold. Turned out that the thermostat was stuck open! It was a pretty easy DIY fix. Two weeks later the second engine had the same problem. I hope this is your problem as it really is fairly easy to replace them. Message me if you need to do it, I can save you some pondering time.

I change my impeller every two years. It's a cheap part that can cause a catastrophic event. Good luck.

I agree that a an impeller would break down and clog things up and cause high temps and a stuck-open thermostat would cause the engine to not reach operating temp. But, after five years, I'd be a changin' that impeller pronto and not wait for it to crap out when I'm on the water.
