[h=2]Intermittent 2 beep engine alarm[/h]
2003 300 Sundancer 5.0 Port engine runs great, all gauge readings normal but audible alarm sounds 2 beeps at idle & low speed. This is present a few min after starting. I noticed when placing the start engine into the run position prior to starting, the port engine sounds 2 short beeps while the starboard engine sounds 1 short beep. After starting, there are no beeps until the port engine starts to alarm. The raw water pump was just replaced due to a leak prior to puirchasing the boat a few weeks ago and the alarm started approx 15 hours later. The manual states 2 short beeps is caused by low gear oil but the level was just below the line. I added gear oil and now it is just above the line. I am not sure if the gear oil sensor is normally open when low or closed. I could either open the sensor or short the connection to eliminate the gear oil monitor. I do not have the smart gauge system and will have a mechanic scan the ECM codes unless anyone has any ideas.
Thanks, J-Rod

Sounds potentially like your idle air controller. $100 part and 10 minute change that even I could do twice (2 engines). One if mine failed in a way that the engine could still run/idle. The other failed in a state that wouldn't restart after docking and cooling down. Make sure you get your engine serial numbers and also get the $1 spongy "muffler" to change at the same time.

Not a 100% diagnosis for the two-beep alarm but certainly one to investigate. Several good threads including how-to and photos on here.

Jim, thanks for the reply. The Engine runs and performs great minus the 2 beep alarm. I wrote the audible alarm sounds 2 beeps at idle & low speed. The 2 beeps are also happening now at faster speeds. I guess I could change the IAC to rule it out if anyone thinks it can alarm at higher RPM's. I have read that the IAC only affects the idle circuit. Could a faulty IAC alarm at higher RPM's?There are no other symptoms so far. Do you still think it sounds like the IAC?
