I am big on keeping a boat updated and looking as current as possible within reason. Our 3870 cabin has beautiful cherry wood, and a lot of it, including hardwood floors. We want to freshen the look by replacing the gold/brass hardware with either brushed nickel or chrome. Many people indicate the new yachts all have chrome hardware. The chrome seems brighter and the nickel would not show fingerprints.

I know many of you love your gold/brass hardware, and I have enjoyed it for years, but with a new to me boat, we want a fresh look.

What would you suggest, chrome or brushed nickel? Why?

I actually prefer the chrome. A buddy just did all brushed and I think it lost it’s luxury look. I think to have the brushed stuff you need a more matte or satin finish on the cabinets like the newer boats

Hold on to the gold hardware when you do the update. What is old will be new again. Just look at bathroom/kitchen reno's now where gold hardware is being used again more and more. And brushed nickel is so cliche and common these days (not according to me, the words from our bathroom reno designer who convinced us to go with polished nickel) Not yet shiny brass, but at some point....

The Cruisers cabinets are not as glossy as Sea Ray cabinets. Hmmm

Great input here.

I updated out 1990 390 with all brushed light fixtures and hardware. However, we do not have a glossy cherry interior, it is mostly white laminate and medium oak. Brushed nickle worked well with those. MY OPINION is the chrome hardware and fixtures with gloss wood cabinets looks fantastic. That is the direction I would go if I had high gloss cabinetry. Again, just MHO.

This stuff comes into and out of fashion on regular cycles. As soon as you change it out, it is on its way to going out of style. We have the chrome knobs on our boat, and did not buy it for the knobs when we purchased in 2004. I would save the money and spend it on something that adds function or value and not worry about the shine on the knobs.

Ours has the brushed nickel and I think it goes well with the dark cherry wood. The chrome is a bit "flashy" for the admiral. Like stated above, all of it runs in cycles.

We have the chrome knobs. As you can see, they dominate the decor and establish the modern, yet warm ambiance. I'm just thankful Tiara did not used brushed nickel, sparing us the need to change them out.

You might find out down the road that you might not be seeing brass or chrome plating as its classified as toxic because they are heavy metals and under more and more regulations from the government. I got a cabinet shop and see it more and more everyday.

Just did this on all our knobs. We went with the brushed look. Have you figured out a way to get rid of the gold edge on tambour doors?

Find out if the edge is a type of T-moulding where there is a slot around door and moulding is slid in, if so look up out water plastics online and they make all sizes and colors of that kind of mouding and you can order and quanity you need.

I was planning to paint my T moulding
