Anyone have any experience with Intellian Sat TV systems? They appear to have some systems that are similar to KVH.

Thx,

Mike

I saw their ad in this month's Sport Fishing magazine and looked at their info online. If I were in the market for a sat unit today, I'd still buy the M3 I have. As to Intellian, I'd have to ask "Why?"

KVH has proven reliability and a service network. The KVH is plug and play- and includes the receiver. The Intellian looked to me like you need an engineering degree to program the thing...

Pricing is about the same, so why take a chance on being a guinea pig for a new manufacturer?

Tobnpr to answer the band stuff here's the answer when we make the switch to HD your sat system won't work as it will be on the ku band and not the ka band I'm sure kvh wil have a work around but you may have to purchase a box to receive a picture as for the other system it will receive either so it solves the band problem. I believe the ku band will be reserved for military apps ( I didn't say that) P.S no you won't get anything without a decoder ( Didn't say that either) I'm currently waiting myself for these very issues to be resolved before I buy One

HA! That shows you, Gary. I've been waiting seven years since SRO for someone to show your your comeuppance. Finally! Time to open that bottle of Dom Perignon.

So you think the Ku band will move to a CDMA (code division multiple access) like the cell phones use? This might explain how the military could use the same band. I believe Ku band is FDMA (frequency DMA) now, which is full so if the military were to use it they would "step on" some of the channels.

Anyway if DirectTV moves all the HD channels to Ka band then if you had a Ku system you would need to switch to DISH for HD channels, or get a Ka system right??? Seems it would make sense to get the KVH M3DX or eqv Intellian i2 which allows use with DirectTV or DISH. Then you could subscribe to DirectTV now and switch to DISH when DirectTV moves the HD channels to Ka band, this is less $ than the Intellian Ka system.

I really wasn't considering HD until today when setting the cockpit TV up for the Gator Bulldog game and realized I have a HDTV cockpit TV and watched the game in HD from the local channel 10 station (go ahead I deserve being jabbed!!). See my "Suprised" post today. On the 19' Sharp HDTV the picture was excellent. Since I already have a HD compatable TV, I my as well use it and go for a HD compatible Sat TV if it doesn't cost toooooo much.

Does all this rambling make any sense??

Mike
