Is there a difference between an intake manifold for a GM 5.7L "inboard" than for an "Alpha" sterndrive? I realize the intake version has to have the wedge that sits under the carb. I can't seem to bolt up this Quadrajet to it. The holes in the front of the carb need to be at an angle.

Is this suppose to be a "High Rise" intake?

Jim

Jim, you are confusing some terms. The 5.7L inboard is the motor. An Alpha sterndrive is the part that hangs on the transom outside the boat.
My last Sea Ray had a Marine Power 5.7L inboard engine with an Alpha 1 sterndrive hanging off the back.

Are you actually trying to find out of there is a difference between the 5.7L engine on a sterndrive boat compared to a 5.7L engine in an inboard boat ?

Sorry, I made perfect sense in my head.

To me, there are only three kinds of boat/motor combinations.

Inboard- (Weekender-Borg Warner-etc)
Inboard/outboard (the kind with the drive attached to the inboard engine, insert brand of choice)

And outboard. (just like my Ranger Bass Boat)

Now, The difference, that I am discussing, is between an INBOARD engine and an INBOARD/OUTBOARD engine. The degree of tilt the engine has to mate up to the direct drive shaft on these models. (Yes, I am aware of V-drives and engine with drive shafts that use u-joints. Different story, foe another time)
With that degree of tilt, the carbureated models have a wedge or an intake manifold that holds the carb level so the float will operate correctly.

Wedge under the carburetor? Never heard of it, but I'm no expert here.
Engine mounting angles aren't all that severe in inboard applications. A few degrees, usually. If more is needed, it's accomplished with a down-angle transmission.

How's it any different than driving a car up, or down, a hill??
