Hi guys, i am looking to purchase a 2004 or 2005 300DA, never had any insurance claims and clean license. what the average range should i be looking to be paying per year for insurance, Geico quoted me $2100, and Progressive $1950. .. If you have an agent you know and is would not mind sharing his info please send it my way

Thanks
Nick

Many people use NBOA with good results. I use Amica (bundled with home and auto) and my boat insurance is 1/3 what you are being quoted.

Progressive has always been high (for me) on boats. And I just dropped GEICO because their rates went through the roof. I currently have NBOA at dang near half of what GEICO wanted.

Of course a lot of it depends where you boat.

just got a bunch of quotes, Chubb was the best at $604 for 100k agreed value on a 2000 380 DA... next was a small independent in lake of the ozark at $800.... went up from there. The LOTO office told me CHUBB was very reputable and to use them if they were that low.... i do have layup from DEC-March (4 months)

I have year round coverage in FL for agreed value of 93k, for about 1200/year, I have been boating for 20 years, and have taken safe boater courses, and a high credit rating (not sure what they use, though) I have mine through Geico along with 3 cars.

Ill check them also. Currently with the Lib Mutual marine division at $1200 for a 2002 310 Da with $500k liability.

Seems very high. As others have said, shop around. I recently got a quote for $350k agreed hull value for much less than either of those.

Those quotes are surprisingly high unless you store in the water year round. For hard layup on a 30 foot boat, I would expect to see a premium about half of the higher number. Your quotes are much higher than our premium for a yacht policy with an A rated company and with 2 1/2 times higher coverage limits. Maybe the storm from several years ago is driving pricing for that area of the country. Credit ratings have a significant influence on premiums as well.

In N.J we paid 1100 for a 300DA with agreed value of 140K through NBOA. But that was 7 years ago, right before Superstorm Sandy

I have been getting insurance quotes for the last couple of weeks on a '96 370 DA, and have quotes from $540, to 1800. Definitely shop around.

You are just no fun, here everyone had an opportunity to repost all their wisdom, or maybe repost someone else's wisdom as their own and you go and short circuit it.. LOL

I am just going through a tough re-quote on my car insurance right now. In the last year my college daughter has smacked up her new civic twice...she was rear ended pretty bad and a weird hit and run that took out the front quarter panel and hood when it was parked (at a party none the less) and on top of that she got a speeding ticket... Both accidents not her fault but they raised her premium...alot. Next...My wife hopped out of her new Mercedes in the garage with it still in reverse and it rolled back and hit a steel shelf.. $7.2K in damage... and in the last year I have had two windshields replaced in a Lexus and two really good speeding tickets...one in a construction zone :( Overall for three cars... my premiums have more than doubled from "really shitty" to "You have to be phuck'n kidding me!?!?!?!" status. So I am a bit bitter right now when it comes to insurance companies....so to your point I needed to put this thread to bed...and stop my visual pain of seeing others go through the same thing :)

Well that settles it. You can use our guest slip if you visit Michigan but the complimentary use of the Isseta is not in the cards. No loaner for you!

Dry land storage for 5 months, $760.00 per year for the river which is higher than if we kept it on a lake. Agreed value.

When you are shopping for insurance and only looking at the quotes, don't forget to compare apples to apples.

This past summer we were bringing the boat back upriver from Portland. On the trip the port transmission wouldn't come out of gear. It made docking interesting but even more fun was we had to take the boat back down to Portland to have it hauled and the trans repaired.

The total bill was a bit north of $15K and all I had to pay was my deductible. The ins company covered the rest of the entire bill because it was damage (to the trans) that happened unexpectedly and was not due to poor maintenance.

The reason they covered it is because I have a yacht policy, not a boat policy. There's a big difference between the two and it's worth your time and money to find out what the difference is.

WOW! I was searching for the unlike button. That is a string of sucky events. Do you at least have a good independent insurance agent to help you through the mess? I know a great guy in your area. PM me if you need it.

Thanks Mike... We had to bite the bullet last week... We have a good person and trust she is doing the best she can. I tried my agent in Michigan and couldn't come close.... So I feel I have the best of a bad situation.
