Has anyone used or know about NBOA Marine Insurance. They were recommended by the Sea Ray salesman and he indicated the were widely used by Sea Ray dealers. I received a quote that was very reasonable, but wanted to know if anyone had any insight. I also got a quote from my Allstate agent which was about double. All for new 2007 280 DA. Thanks!

NBOA is good, but if you want another quote I reccomend Travelers. They were 1 or 2 hundred more but great boat coverage.

I shopped, and that's who I chose. I've used a few, and they (NBOA) have had the best prices for me so far. Thank goodness, no claims to comment on.

I use them, too. Never had a claim though, and that will be where the proof in the pudding comes from. There rates are great and I have no layup restrictions, have use of entire US coastal (100 miles) and inland waters and agreed value coverage.

+1. saving me several hundred each year.

You might want to try progressive... I saved $500 last year when I switched to Progressive...

Just saved 50% for my boat with a lay up from Nov. 1. to April from Allstate through NBOA. $800 to $400 with a better agreed value coverage.

This proves that it pays to shop around....I saved $300 when I switched from Progressive. Although Progressive was really easy to deal with.

I like NBOA as a company too but your price might vary depending on your personal variables.

Great thread as I am currently shopping for insurance.

Just asked for a quote from NBOA.

Just heard back from NBOA and they do not (According to the rep I spoke with) insure boats over 9 years old.

He recommended Progressive and he is working up numbers with them.

Ugh. Mine is 9 years old this year. I will see what they say later today or tomorrow.

Thanks Vince.

What is normally reccomended for insurance coverage, or is it all subjective like auto insuarnce?

Here's what I recevied from NBOA today. Any idea what the deal is? Do they have a length limit?
We appreciate your interest in NBOA Marine Insurance’s low rates however, at this time, we have no market available for your boat. + 1 on NBOA - I've had them for 4 yrs with no probs - as far as above could be a combination of boat size, location, your experience, etc

Thanks everyone! It looks alot of people got something out of this thread. I did go with NBOA after a couple of comparisons. All of the advice was very helpful... it was really good to hear from those of you who also have or do use this company. I cannot wait to get on the water!!!:smt038

Its not you, its where you live. All the recent hurricanes. A lot of companies pulled out of Florida after thier loss ratios went through the roof. The effects reached far, including CT. Companies pulled out of "waterfront" markets. I live a mile from LI Sound on a cove on the Thames River that leads to the sound and I am considered Waterfront and had to seek new insurance for my home. Everything within 5 miles of the water. The trick was they would not deny, just raise the policy rates and demanded that certain storm shutters were installed. What a mess.

I just switched to NBOA as they were about $300 cheaper than the other two Insurance Brokers that I shopped. So far I'm very happy.
