Instrument/Dash Switch Indicators LED Dilemma Solutions

Seems I’ve been one upped.

Cool. Where did you find that?
A couple just popped up on eBay. $50 shipped, which is really good considering the others I have seen are $130+. Have not yet tested, probably won't get to the boat again until the weekend. Two more still available.

Ok, so I got the new old stock unit installed and it works great. I took my original broken one apart and should be able to fit 3 new bulbs in there. The back is glued to the case and you just cut it with a razor blade. The resistors are 47kOhm on the little circuit board and the bulbs look to be standard NE-2 bulbs. 5mm diameter, 12mm length. I'm going to order some at 0.3A and see if I can solder them in place so they all fit correctly. Will report back in a few weeks.

Fixed.

Blown bulbs removed with the iron, new bulbs ready to trim and install...

All bulbs work. One is brighter because I had it wired up differently to check all 3.

As intended with correct polarity indicated.

Nice job. Where did you get the bulbs?

Now you can sell the NOS ones for a profit, but not to me. :)

I see you have the white wire in the ground. What’s up with that?

I got them from Jameco Electronics. They're NE-2 0.3A bulbs.

I'll just sell the NOS for what I paid... $50.

The order of the ground and neutral doesn't matter since it should be at the same potential. Putting the black wire anywhere else would indicate one of the various faults.

If you say so man. Lol.

You clearly more electrically edumacated than I am, but I like it.

If the ones I snatched out of the derelict done work, I’ll replace the bulbs and rotate them in.

After I replace my forward hatch, rebuild my toilet base, put my new vacuum pump in and replace my fresh water tank.

All of that has to happen after I complete the extensive cockpit renovation I’m in the middle of.

Bulbs are clearly the least of your concerns. Haha. Good luck with all the work!

Dang, you guys are awesome! that is some great research. It's tough to work on research projects in the height of the season. We will start stocking those LED lamps and will note the heat/brightness issue on our websites. We will continue to stock the 12-15V units as they may have a purpose to some. Of course you all can return them with no restock fees, maybe put a copy of this post in the box when you return them so our "returns" desk is alerted.

Thanks, Ken. I was the one who emailed you a few months ago about the heat and brightness issues in the replacement bulbs. I heard from Solico directly that there were actually 15V incandescent versions available long ago, but are no longer made.

I'd return the ones I bought from you, but all the leads have been installed and then cut, so they're not as-new.
