Installing a windlass on an 88 270 da

I recently prchased a Lewmar 700 freefall windlass for my 88 270 da. Looking at the anchor locker, it appears I'm going to be forced to mount this winch directly over the hatch. Did anyone else on this site run into the same trouble?:huh:

On my 91' 270DA we installed a capstan style windlass with no issues. Can you post a photo? That might help with suggestions. I will say that we used an aluminum backing plate as the deck did not have any reinforcing built into the fiberglass. I thought the 88' model had the same bow configuration, but I could be wrong...Dan

My boat is the same design as yours, and the PO just bolted down the anchor locker hatch and mounted the windalss to it. It worked fine, but I replaced it with a different setup. To answer your question though, yea you can just mount it to the hatch.
