After having my batteries fried multiple times, I purchased a Pronautica 1250P 3 bank charger. The install was fairly straight forward.

You will love this upgrade. I replaced a 20amp Guest with a 40amp ProMariner. Plug it into shore power and forget it. I did have to increase the circuit breaker size. After the initial programming, you can just forget it.

Yup, I did that too.

Ditto here. That's a fantastic unit. I was cooking batteries on the original charger.

Despite being incredibly easy to install, I still managed a bone-head move. My OEM wires were all wrapped in a black casing (either tape or shrink tube), so when I peeled back the sleeve on the first wire to see which was which, I saw black and assumed it was the wire casing, assumed negative feed and attached. And of course assumed the other 3 were all red. It was actually a positive red with black tape. Needless to say it didn't work when I fired it up. It also didn't explode into a blaze of glory. It just cooked the fuses onboard the unit.

Standard automotive fuses. No problem. Peeled back all the black tape, saw my idiot error, and reattached. All has been working flawlessly for 3 years.

I have the 1220 for our little 290 and 3 group 27's and I love the thing. I cheaped out a bit on batteries and went with 3 new walmart marine units but I really do believe the charger is one of the most important parts of the system and those 3 batteries start the engines perfectly every time. They're just lead acid, and I've noticed I fill them up much less frequently now that I have a real charger.

Ditto here. Replaced the OEM Promarine 30A charger with a Pronautic 1240P. I initially did not replace the in-line fuses between the charger and batteries. That was a mistake. The 1240 puts out a full 40A whe the batteries are run down. So back at the dock after a long weekend on the hook, the charger blew the fuse on the port bank (my golf cart house bank). I did not notice. So after a few more uses the port bank was nearly dead and stayed that way for a while (only charging while underway). I only noticed when the port engine would not turn over, and after saying WTF, found the problem. So I put 40A fuses on and all is good. Also had to replace the house bank. They were due anyway, but sitting at low charge did not help.

Getting ready to install a 1230P on my boat in the next week or two. I have an older Charles unit that can cook batteries, also has one circuit that isn't putting out anything. That would be my port starting battery so time for an upgrade.
